A typical conversation with a Spurs fan

After the dullest transfer window in history, I thought I’d share a very funny video that fans of both of Arsenal and Tottenham can enjoy.

If this video has done the rounds already, then I do apologise, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it, and it’s bloody hilarious.

Warning! Very explicit language, and references to Tottenham.

Even a couple Tottenham fans have laughed at this one.

On a seperate note, we’ve got Almunia for the season, well definitely until January anyway. Let’s all get behind the fella.

    Eye Eye.
    Lets get behind him
Not much else to do except accept the status quo.
Mark Hughes have been blabbing to Sky about not receiving any further requests from Arsenal. I thought that was what he wanted, yet he carries on. He and ‘Arry love to chat about thier business.
P.S. Spurs have bought in a Dutch Master….

  2. I like Van der Vaart, but he’ll fail miserably at Spurs. Wenger could bring out the best in him, Harry won’t.

  3. Yido6061

Scotty boy how’s life been treating you? You still banging on about your keeper :-)

  4. Welcome back Yido6061. I’m all good matey. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before this post got to your mob! :)
Looking forward to a bit of Van der Vaart?

  5. Yido6061

Good sighing if levy can pull it off! And to answer your comment on van der vaart I think he’ll fit in well on Spurs but as everything time will tell :-/

  6. I’m only winding you lot up about Harry not getting the best out of him. From what I’ve seen of Van der Vaart, he’s more ‘industrious’ then people like to believe. Some people seem to think he’s a bit tricky, or even similar to Modric, but from what I’ve seen he’s more of a hardworking type. Quality player.

  7. Yido6061

Shame we didn’t manage to off load the rubbish In this window I see we’re drawn together in a certain mickie mouse cup again will wenger’s kids be up to the task of playing our 2nd string :-)

  8. Haha! I can sense your nerves about that game already. Us Arsenal fans haven’t even thought about it, as it’s so insignificant ;)

  9. jon

    why don’t you 2 get a room?

  10. maddo

!We are doomed, doomed I say!

My friend just emailed from her holiday in India.
She just checked the Arsenal Webpage and saw no incoming keeper. She is very annoyed. I tell her
I just love that expression.”Doomed indeed”.
I told her to get a life and come back as brown as possible.
Manuel is fine, he just need to show his crazy self like the German use to do.

  11. Yido6061

If by the very remote chance that your team of underachieving kids manage to beat our 2nd string then that Mickie Mouse cup will be your only change of silverware this season :-/

    You know you want it.
Its the only silverware you will win this year.

P.S. Can I get tickets for your Milan CL tie.

  14. There’s a lot of love at Arsenal Opinion :)
We don’t hate. We love banter, but we don’t hate.

  15. lew``

    lol @ jon.

VDV for 8m il would be bargain, not like spurs, usually pay over the odds.

out of interest Yido, who would you have liked t have left your lot in the window?

  16. Yido6061

Maddo @ we won’t get into cups and 5 or 6 years etc …… :-) we’ve got bigger fish to fry this year COYS

Yo gotta win those games my son. No use drawing with Moneybags and losing to Wigan. In terms of higher ground and bigger fish,we will refer to this submission come Feb 2011. I rest my case.
    Lol ( Love our league)

  18. Stratty

Do you think being in a competition for 14 years without winning it is a great mark of success? After all that time, we have still won more European trophies than you. Stupid Gooners.

  19. Do we have to get into this conversation again!!?! :)
Stratty, I could answer your question in a very diplomatic and sensible way, but it won’t help! I’ve got a feeling I know where this conversation is going (again!). ;)

  20. Yido6061

Lew @ if the deal is approved by the Premier League then 8 million is a steal on the players that I’d have preferred sold (not loaned out) Jenas, palacios, O’hara,

  21. Sean Spillane

Stratty…idiot…Spuds 0 Wigan 1…49 years and still no Title DOH!

  22. I’m with Sean. Regardless of all the cups you want, the league is the bread and butter. The league proves who the best team in England are. Cups don’t. The Champions League doesn’t even prove who the best team in Europe is, it’s a cup! Liverpool, Inter and Porto have proved that.

  23. PS

Yido6061 – I think Harry/Levy have pulled off a blinder there (if it completes). But lets take a step back.. I know its only 8m and its peanuts for RVdV… but you dont lack firepower do you? I think that money would have been better spent on defense reinforcements?
As for us, am gutted AW didnt get a keeper. I hope Almunia’s splendid performance at Ewood Park was a sign of things to come, and not a flash in the pan.

  24. maddo

Scotty Mate. There is a germ on your site. I have crashed three times, so I say good night, while I do a germ scan.

  25. Really?? Shit!! Is anyone else having PC problems when coming onto the site?
Let’s hope it’s your PC Maddo, and not my blog. Not for your sake obviously!! ;)

  26. JK

I don’t understand all this crap about getting behind Almunia. I used to cheer a clap when he makes a save, now I just think thank fuck for that. It’s ok getting behind him when he has one his brief spells of confidence, but what about when he inevitably starts to make howler after howler. He’s been playing for us long enough to demonstrate he’s not good enough, he’s not suddenly just going to become fit for purpose overnight. I know it’s not his fault and he’s a nice guy, but I don’t give a shit. When he and his cretinous understudy start costing us stupid points by bungling about at corners and set pieces, do we all clap and sing their names like the idiots Wenger takes us to be.

We are all being mugged because AW no longer gives a shit about winning anymore, if we do win something it will be a fluke that is in no way attributable to his managerial decisions. You can bet your arse as soon as we Start to look like we are going to win the Carling cup AW will field a team that can’t win as soon as we draw a difficult team. Why would we want to bother trying to win the Mickey Mouse cup when we can win fuck all instead.

Are we all supposed to blindly sing the names of goal keepers we now aren’t good enough when they are costing
us points with incompetence we can see with our own eyes. Are we supposed to keep singing the paises of a Manager who has no interest in winning, just how much of a shoe string budget can you keep a team in the Champions League with. Perhaps we all just keep on prettending we see the Emperors lovely new clothes while we pay our exorbitant ticket prices.

  27. JK, I can appreciate your anger mate, and I don’t think any Arsenal fans are happy with the lack of trophies.
But getting behind Almunia is the best thing we can do. Because we have to.
I agree, he’s not the best keeper around, but it’s not going to do him any good to batter him for 90 minutes.
Players with confidence = better players! During Thierry Henry’s first few months at the club, his confidence was rock bottom and he looked absolutely dog turd, but as soon as that confidence was lifted, he looked unstoppable. I know it’s a little ridiculous of me to compare him to Henry, but that really was the first name that came to my head :)

  28. Yido6061

Ok Spurs haven’t won the League in 49 years, and Arscum have won a lot more in terms of Cups, League’s etc But Guys & Girls… Why live in the past I’d rather have the present THFC Manager and players than some of the dross that we’ve had in the past, Man for man they well match Arsenal and isn’t it *ucking good that two teams from North London are in the Champions League (not forgetting the tossers from west London) I for one will enjoy the journey COYS

  29. “..isn’t it *ucking good that two teams from North London are in the Champions League…”

I think you’re on your own in that one Yido6061 :)

  33. Goonerpower

I’m sorry but back to the article, that is absolutely hilarious. A complete exaggerated piece of genius. Excellent find.

I’m nervous about our keeper stituation, it could go either way. He could either pull it together and give him extra drive, or really go blunder boy. I hope for the first

  34. I know what you mean Goonerpower.

  35. ryan

on one hand i hate spurs and enjoy every failure they ever have, on the other hand the more successful they are, the more enjoyable it will be if we remain the better team.

this is a genuine question now, which would you rather see, arsenal beat spurs in the final game of the season at white hart lane and get them relegated or arsenal win a champions league final vs them at white hart lane?

PERSONALLY the annoyance of them reaching the cl final would be SO worth it if we ended up beating them. it would be the biggest game of our footballing lives and odds are it would never happen again. i literally can’t imagine how good it would be beat to beat them in the final with all that pressure. of course if we lost it would be the worst thing in human history, but i love the high pressure games- they’re what motivate me to watch football.

so what i’m saying is in a way if spurs do well in the cl but we end up knocking them out it would be fucking BRILLIANT. however watching them lose to young boys was fucking hilarious and it’s very hard not to want that sort of result.

    big dillema

  36. Clockworkyid

    Great debate chaps.

I would love another defender-this time of some calibre but it looks like it aint gonna happen.Drat!

However if the VDV thing comes off then great he is used to a different league to a lot of our players so hopefully he can gel with the team and also he would good for Gallas who has always cried for more exeperinced players, bigger names etc etc so hopefully our better players Modders etc can turn our dressing room into a hub of positivity….!

Fuck lets hope its a good season with ‘real clubs’ doing well and maybe we can turn over the old guard.

Would be funny if we do pull of a champions leauge coup.Unlikely but to get a fourth European trophy.
Well ScottPuffin how would you cope with that….?

Cheers again great site and good banter.

    Adiou

  37. Jk

    There’s another jk…WTF lol

Almunia isn’t a bad keeper he just lacks confidence. He also needs to work on being a bit more aggressive. If his name gets chanted around the emirates by us gooners he might pick up is game because he knows he’s loved around the club. Only time will tell,UP THE ARSENAL!!!

  38. Common Sensei

@ Yid supporters who sound like they are being advised by Jamie Redknapp:

    OK first things first;

The Carling Cup is not ‘mickey mouse’ it is a legitimate competition which is worth winning for any team. All this arrogant talk about how it is worthless is purely ignorant. No it does not prove you are ‘the best team’ in any way just that your luck and form was the most consistant.

Spurs have NEVER won the champions league under it’s current format (or even qualified for it, save for This season after City generously chucked away their pre-arranged spot with some kamikaze tactics and defending). Spurs have won the UEFA CUP under it’s OLD format in 1963, 1974 and 1984 when they beat Young Boys, Atletico Madrid, and Anderlecht…

Young Boys beat your team over 2 legs last week so no bragging rights from the last 2o years there

Atletico Madrid were last years winners after 2 stunning goals by Diego Forlan; who coincidentally is yet another player to add to the list who rejected the advances of Spurs and Harry Redknapp despite the promise of premier league football and higher wages. Again no current bragging rights

Anderlecht you had to beat on penalties after a 1-1 scoreline, even though at the time Spurs had a far superior squad and manager. So no bragging right there either.

Arsenal on the other hand, won the UEFA Cup in 1970, beating Anderlecht 4-3 over 2 legs to lift the trophy, then beat Parma in 1994 to win it again.

Arsenal then progressed onto the European Cup-Winners Cups (Now Champions League) where they have reached the final on 3 occassions losing to Valencia, Real Zaragoza, then Barcelona more recently drawing the first game and losing in the second leg due to huge injury problems.

They are London’s most successful team with 25 titles in total, the biggest most expensive and modern stadium and facilities, the best training ground, longest serving most successful manager, and can boast creating some of the worlds best players crafted by training them from a young ago in the ways of passing-football.

The pride of London was the name that the sporting industry bestowed upon the club because of their sustained successes.

  39. 1888

almunia is a joke! ffs 3rd 0r 4th this yr again

  40. Common Sensei

What are you basing that view on?

Perhaps it is the fact that he is the only premier league keeper who has taken their team to the final of the Champions league in 2006 without conceding, after mad Jens was injured.

    That is basically 10 games in a row in the Champions League where all 10 opposing teams failed to score;

After the initial 2 games (and an injury to Jens Lehmann) Sparta Prague, FC Thun, Ajax, Real Madrid, and Villareal all fell to Arsenal in the group stages and quarter /semi finals without scoring a single goal of any kind against Almunia ‘the joke keeper’.

Also he single handedly kept us in the hunt during the Barcelona game where he was peppered with shots and the defence were napping away.

Infact, whoever called him a joke – do you even watch Arsenal and Alumina??

When was the last time you visited and watched Arsenal? Forgetting his blunders for a second since they are actually no more numerous than any other keeper during a bad season … what is your logic behind calling him a joke when he is (a) Our best option and only proper keeper at the moment, and (b) he has played well enough for our 3 games and conceded 1 goal?

I would be surprised if you could honestly answer -

  41. akm

After the initial 2 games (and an injury to Jens Lehmann) Sparta Prague, FC Thun, Ajax, Real Madrid, and Villareal all fell to Arsenal in the group stages and quarter /semi finals without scoring a single goal of any kind against Almunia ‘the joke keeper’. >>>

    >>> get your facts right…LEHMANN SAVED RIQUELME (Villareal semi-s) PENALTY….that much i am certain. Alumnia definitely had nothing to do with our 10 match run

    >>>Almunia is not a “joke keeper”. He’s just a nice guy who likes to dive AFTER the ball cross the line. They teach this at the special schools.

  42. MidnightMoor

    @ Stratty

“Do you think being in a competition for 14 years without winning it is a great mark of success?”

No, but at least when we finish 4th, we see it as a bad season, rather than celebrating as though we’ve just won the fucking league….

Speaking of which…how long since Spurs won the league?
