Van Persie out for ‘several weeks’, and Schwarzer on his way?

Sky Sports have just reported that Robin van Persie will be out of action for ‘several weeks’, with the ankle injury he picked up against Blackburn on Saturday.

This is bad news for Arsenal, but if Chamakh can stay fit in the absence of the Dutchman, then it won’t affect us as badly as first suspected.

In other news, Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal may not be finished in the transfer market.

“It is dead at the moment”

“But maybe not finished”

“At the moment I would say, as it is today, it is finished.”

I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t got a clue what Wenger means. Is it dead or not? Your guess is as good as mine.

I’ll be surprised if Wenger isn’t talking about Schwarzer coming in. If we don’t sign him, then I’ll be shocked. It seems like an absolute cert.

Either way, I’ll be glued to channel 405 (Sky Sports News on Sky) tomorrow night until the window closes at 12am. Actually, I’ll be on later than that, as I recall the Gallas signing finally got announced at about 3am, and the Arshavin deal was announced about 24 hours later.

Let’s hope Wenger can put us out of our misery, sign Schwarzer in the afternoon and announce that we definitely aren’t signing anyone else. It’ll save a good few hours of my life.

Cant say Im surprised my RvP’s injury being worse than we hoped. Looks like JET wont be going on loan anytime soon now, as I seriously doubt Wenger would want to upset the balance sheet by signing a striker as cover.

I mean, we went half a season with no strikers last season and he didnt bother then.

  2. dilshan

AW did say RVP is about 2 weeks and guess that is what they mean may be add a wk or so..not too worried as I feel he would have been on the bench for Bolton home, guess me might need him for Sunderland …I think the deal will be done for a GK also have a feeling there might be another surprise deal done for a player, possibly some one 18-19

  3. Goonerman

Get another top class striker in now. RvP being injured again is last straw.

  4. Gooner1971

No need to stay up to 12am, the window shuts at 6pm (BST).

    That is all

  5. @Gooner1971, thanks for that. I didn’t know that. That’s handy! :)

  6. @Mug, how you doing mate?
Yeah, actually I totally forgot about JET. He looked decent in pre-season to be fair.

  7. Gooner1971

Yeah, means we can all go to bed at a sensible time.

  8. eirik

We should just look at him as a bonus temporarily month by month loan-signing, and consider Chamakh as our main striker and focus on that

  9. Yeh I hope we hold on to JET he is a big physical player and a great finisher

  10. Mug

    Scott

Im good mate. But this news on Robin has really dented my early season confidence.

Looking at the positives, it could be a chance for JET to come in though.

But then again, perhaps it will just be 2 weeks out for RvP? Here’s hoping anyway

  11. gun

Saw Schwarzer during the world cup, not better than Almunia. The defence needs to be stronger.
Van Persie injury: at least he does not have to play in the Holland team.

  12. simms21

I think we’re fine. Chamakh gets more time in the front role with fabregas playing behind him. By the time RVP is health so will Bedtner. JET and Vela should be able to fill in till then.

  13. Eduardo

Given is staying at city it seems. He told the ireland manager he is staying at city

  14. Oh boy, a month into it and already we got this type if problems?

  15. @Gun, I don’t think we should judge Schwarzer on his World Cup performance. If that was the case, most fans wouldn’t want to sign Messi or Ronaldo! ;)
I’ve got two mates who are season ticket holders at Fulham and Middlesbro, and they have both assured me that Schwarzer is absolutely top class.

  16. Goonerpastor

May my God, stop all this injuries, which has really been our major problem d last couple of years

  17. kd

I THINK JET would make an escellent centre forward. He has all the qualities…strength pace skill..

  18. kd, let’s hope he gets some games under his belt this season. He definitely has potential.

  19. gun

If Schwarzer is that good, why is he, at his age, still at Fulham? We need a kind of van der Sar.

  20. Mug

van der Sar???? He is average, seriously, not a good analogy there mate!

  21. Goonerpastor

Shwarzer is very decent,I can assure u, he will not be pushed around by stoke or Blackburn in d box.

  22. george

We should not worry about what they are saying on Sky,after all they sold Cesc for us and gave us Joe Cole.Do they ever get anything right?

  23. george

Or what the Dutch say ,they had him only out for 6 weeks last time

  24. jack lol

just said on sky sports news that given is flying back to Britain to sort out a deal as he has been told he can leave citeh.

  25. George, I think the ‘several’ weeks has now been reduced to about three weeks. Not too bad after all.

  26. deepak

now that rvp is injured ,AW should deff play JET he has got the physical presence and could be a great combination with chamakh. But hope rvp gets well soon..hes a class act.

  27. Ron

why is it that a majority of the chavski players always get ‘injured’ before international breaks… this time its terry n lampard… those lot from west london sure knows how to get away with it and nobody seems to be able to stop them…

  28. maddo

Ron: Manu U did it for years, especially with Ryan Giggs. He rarely played for Wales.
Scotty: What is Channel 405@ Where are you based?
TransitVan is replacing RVP in the Netherland Team.
The good thing is, he is resting and have’nt been recalled. So he has two weeks of rest.
Scotty you seemed quite positive about Mark S. I am 90% convinced, and 10% unsure. The uncertainity has to be time. We may have kept it a little too late. Fulham has no goalkeeper at present, that young boy ( Stockdale is now injured).

  29. Guys, don’t worry. the man is in already. only Almunia should worry!

  30. Mug

    Ron

Ivanovic has got an injury too mate!

  31. madu

i lov wenger n his chioce of words i wont b suprise if he ends up nt signin a gk think of it 4 a while all we hear is gk is comin in. But do u tink wenger wil b pay how many gks 2 sit on d bench come on am a fan of shwarzer but frm what i no is all our gks r stayin then wenger isnt buyin. 4 our marksman i hate 2 c him get injured i realy lov it wen eva he play i trust charmakh 2 do well

  32. Steve

@ Gun…I am thinking you only saw Schwarzer’s game against Germany (behind an atrocious defence facing a red hot German team) He was amazing against Ghana and Serbia. If Loris was rated only on his World Cup he wouldn’t get a gig in the Championship. Don’t forget Schwarzer was EPL player of the month in Feb 2010. Also pretty harsh on Fulham who did make the a final in Europe this year, I believe in part, on the strength of some pretty handy keeping by umm…. who was it again……oh yes Schwarzer.

  33. Henry

Who is jet again can somebody tell me?

  34. Mug

    Jay Emmanuel Thomas

  35. Maddo, sorry mate, it’s ‘Sky Sports News’. I’ll update the article. :)
To be honest, I’ve not seen enough of him to know how good he is, but I do remember seeing a few decent saves from him last season, and he’s a big old lump. If you’re one-on-one with Schwarzer then you’ll know about it. Almunia it tall, but he slouches. Schwarzer seems to really make the most of his height (Schmeichel-like).

  36. Neil

Im praying schwarzer arrives, its like pulling teeth trying to wrap up a 3million signing. wouldnt mind another DM to cover song; he is top class and there is no one else of his calibre in the squad, diaby has become too offensive. He can shoot but thats not why hes in the team, hes a physical presence. Melo woulda been perfect, but I can live without that. Schwarzer is a crucial signing, fingers crossed it happens and we can get on with the season.

  37. kevin

Why has it come to this?Less than 24 hrs left till the window closes and we still havent got a keeper. Its all down to our stubborn manger. We tried to muck Fulham about by ofering £2m for Schwarzer when a bid of £3m would have got him.Now we may lose out and be stuck with Almunia. And that means our season ends tomorrow at 6pm.Thanks a lot Arsene

  38. Kevin, relax mate. We’ve got a few hours left yet. I’m sure we’ll sign him.

Van der Sar joined Manure at age 34 from…. Fulham

  40. bc

Dont worry, it aint Schwarzer! Its Given! well that’s what i’m hoping, Schwarzer would be a backward step as far as i am concerned. A forward step is what we need and i am afraid to say that RVP your time is up, as a striker that we can consider as first choice. I want us to nab a fit 25 goal a season man that could take us to the title, Suarez as well as Given, Cahill (cos Djourou is another RVP) and a DM – Vertonghen or Melo. About as much chance of getting that lot as we have of winning a trophy with what we currently have.

As an Australian I may be biased, but Schwarzer is consistently our national teams best player (along with Cahill), has saved our team more times than I can count. He is stronger on crosses/set pieces than Almunia (which is one of our biggest weaknesses) and in my opinion much more consistent than him also.

  43. Barry Vennison

I’m sick of van persie now.
    Fuck off you Dutch weed.
My 15 month old kid has stronger legs than this twat.
I drink out of wine glasses that can take more than this bender.

arsenal should sign babel from liverpool………….he can play at both wings and cf……he is tall and fast ,skillful ……he is only 23…….but he is injury prone…….he can be good sub …..he can replace nasri or van during injury……gk can wait till jan……..give almunia 1 more chance for 5 months……

  46. Goonerpower

Nice to hear your Opinion Barry hmmmm.
On another note sky has said Mark will not be leaving Fulham this transfer window anyways. And I also read that it’s reported we are in for the lorients goal-keeper llioris (spelling sorry) hope you know who I mean :-)
