UEFA Champions League Draw – Arsenal get the easiest draw

Slightly relieved after watching the Live UEFA Champions League draw is an under-statement.

In my opinion, Arsenal have been given the simplest draw for the group stages of the Champions League.

We face Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, and a return for Arsenal hero Eduardo. We’ve also been drawn against SC Braga of Portugal, and FK Partizan of Serbia.

  1. Arsenal
  2. Shakhtar Donetsk
  3. SC Braga
  4. FK Partizan

All in all, a great draw for Arsenal, and one we should all be very optimistic about.

After the draw, Arsenal have gone from 14/1 to 12/1 with Paddy Power to win the Champions League. Personally, I fancy Real Madrid at 9/2.

  1. Goonerpower

This should be a breeze :-) only really donesk that could cause problems, but even against them I’m confident.

  2. Agreed Goonerpower. I think the Shakhtar away game is the only potential tough tie.

  3. dan

fc braga smashed sevilla so they are not a breeze

  4. Ecko

We’d have gone through no matter who we drew, pots 3 and 4 are poor. I’m disappointed with the draw travel wise, we could have some very tough away games after returning from Ukraine and Serbia.

  5. Inter and Bremen to qualify!

  6. Amazing draw for us.Only bad feeling is return of DuDu.And lets all LOL at spuds RIP

  7. AshGoon

think you’re underselling it a little – braga beat sevilla home and away, no mean feat, and the ukraine is a fair distance and we generally don’t do well when travelling to the old soviet union..still think we’ll make it through, just not as easily as u seem to think.

  8. bewster

welcome back eduardo you will get a great reception from us but we hope you go home sad sorry

  9. ctrhrt

what exactly makes dudu a hero?

  10. gooner

braga smashed sevilla cos sevilla fielded a full strength side against barca for some spanish trophy just days before the CL qualifiers.. understandably sevilla players were tired

  11. N

    @dan: Didn’t they, erm, ‘smash’ them 1-0?

  12. Kalix

And another boring groupstage! The same as last year.

  13. bewster

where did i say he was a hero

  14. useroz

glad arsenal fans could give a proper farewell to eduardo when he returns to the emirates!!

  15. RGG

Don’t know how you work that out.

We’ve got 2 long away trips to Shaktar (our record in the Ukraine is woeful) and Partisan.
Braga are head and shoulders the best team to come out of pot3.
Damn side harder than last year.

  16. Boris

Boring shit, I’d rather be in group of death.

  17. Song is King

i think man u got the easiest draw. valencia without villa, silva, marchena and zigic hardly a team that could bring problems to he mancs. then they have rangers and we know they going to win that 1. lastly bursaspor. to be honest, i don’t even know that club exist until this draw but i hope they surprised me

  18. chandler

Hooly Crapoli Love the Draw………. Maybe DuDu could get one at The Emirates (if we are up 4-5 with no time left) even if not I am sure he will recieve a amazing reception from the Gooners present. Braga did knock out Seville but they Seville was missing thier starting centerback…………………. Ha anycrap brace for Chamakh gainst the bruisers

Braga looked pretty good against Sevilla. And I don’t like having to travel to Ukraine.

Personally, I think MU have the easiest draw. Chelsea, Inter, and AC Milan (in particular) have the toughest.

I don’t think AC Milan will advance.

  20. scottpuffin

Bewster, he was referring to my comment in the article. He’s nit-picking.
Chaps, we’ve got the easiest draw by a long shot. The Champions League has a lot to do with the European experience. For that reason, we have an easy group.
We havent travelled well to Eastern Europe, but that was a long time ago. We’ve learnt from that.

  21. Goonerpower

Come in guys piece of piss group. We have come far since the ‘woeful’ days, we come with some clout. The teams will fear us, plus they have to come to us as well :-)

    GOONERS!!

  22. Bammers05

    Eduardo’s coming back :D

  23. chandler

Sorry yall but come on, WE HAVE THE EASIEST GROUP. Every team in it is saying aw shite we got Arsenal. This is the Champions League so no team is going to be crap but hell this is a great group. The travling is the only downer but phuck it ITS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
    Peace N Chickn Grease

  24. John

Not convinced this is an easy draw; Shaktar and Braga are very decent teams. A bigger problem though is the travel involved with (mostly) difficult away games in the PL immediately after the CL games. Could just have a negative effect on our PL standings.

  25. victor sol

Not an ez group shakhtar donetsk are not easy full of skillful brazilian players and braga have 15 brasilians on their books and beat sevilla. At this stage of the season, even though they played barca in the spanish cup, the champion league is still where they want to be. Braga and donetsk will not be ez. we will qualify but but it wont be ez

  26. XOsauce

    travelling-wise, this is a shit draw…

  27. Jefferson Willougby Davis

    Arroganty!
It seems that the Arse fansa re being rather kocky. Dont count your chickens before they hatch.

  28. Goonerpower

And what’s wrong with that??? I like being ‘arroganty’ lol

  29. Topdzija

First of all its not Partisan…….. The name of the club is Partizan FC . They’re a team from my country and there is one thing I know about them- their fans.
I warn you fellow gunners beware. They are very very violent. They killed a Toulouse FC fan last year. I hope they’re gonna behave this year. But their singing…………………….. AMAZING. I would like to go and watch that game on stadium but I’m afraid I wont be able to go back home in one peace……..xD

  30. I just came to know that there is a team called Arsenal in the ukranian league

  31. scottpuffin

According to UEFA, they are known as FK Partizan in Europe. Exactly how I spelt it!

  32. Topdzija

Well, some1 said Partisan and that FK stands for-Fudbalski Klub.

  33. Goonerpower

    RGG spelt it like that.

  34. looneygooner

There are no easy groups, our away form in the CL in the last few seasons has been crap and it has only been our home form that has got us through, we still lack the keeper we need and we still lack the killer instinct as well we will reach quarter finals maybe semi’s but that will be it

  35. amel

we shouldt worry about atacking teams like braga.. if they attack us we will rip them apart.. i was woried abouth teams like schalke .. playing behind bal with defenders that wont come out of box.

  36. T2T

I’m afraid we underestimate both the teams AND the huge disadvantage of long travels when we face difficult away games in the EPL.
Not as easy as many thinks.

  37. goonbury

overall happy and relieved with the draw. don’t know how some of you are going to be bored because this is the champions league and we get to watch our beloved arsenal show talent against these teams that will want something to prove against us. braga we should beat at home and should be tough away but should get a decent result at lisbon. they have quality but got lucky with sevilla having the spanish super cup match days before, bringing fatigue into their players. partizan we should easily beat at home but will have a fight in belgrade with their intense atmosphere. and shakhtar we should narrowly beat at home and should not really be worried about the away trip because we should be top of the group by december while the three teams battle it out for 2nd.

  38. Ron

The thing that should be a concern for us is that we have 5 away games immediately following the midweek champions league games, and they’re not particularly what you’d call ideal; chelsea, manure, villa among them… the outcome from these big games will definitely have a telling effect on our title aspirations and Im not entirely optimistic … I personally feel the fitness, strength and depth of the squad will come into play and will be absolutely crucial for us to have any chance of coming away with any pts from these matches… this is where the likes of Rosicky, Vela and wilshire will have to step up and deliver.. cesc , rvp should be rested at every available oppurtunity especially on the home fixtures

Its coming home, Champion League is coming home. What a dull draw for us. I certainly will not travel to Serbia or the Ukraine. Portugal I’ve been too many times. There is no glamour in our group.
We can come first or second, why, it does’nt matter in the last sixteen.
Toto have finally been transfered into our team. Arsene did not say what number he will wear.
Arsene also said “no more transfers”. Just under £20m we spent. Not alot as Man C, but more that Blackpool.
Its coming home…. oh shut up. What a dull draw.

  41. Hello Maddo, how you doing matey?
What a great nickname, Toto! :) We should try and start the trend.

  42. Respect Braga, and i can see Eduardo coming back to haunt you with a few guys

  43. maddo

    Hiya mate.
Do you like it. I think its a good one. I have been researching him since last week. I hope he fits in well. We will need him in the months of March & April.
The Spunks have a hard group. They should not underestimate Rafa. He is very good in Europe. he always got the upper hand on Jose’s Chelsea.
I am bored. I was hoping for a better draw. I need to travel and see the world. Serbia does not grab me. Besides I may not come back alive. No prejudice intended.

  44. Let’s hope we draw Rangers in the next round Maddo, you can have an exotic trip up north! ;)

  45. Flash

DuDu is a HERO…who questioned that status its amazing he has both of his legs yet alone play football -you muppet.

Easy draw for CL but not ideal for PL.
Glad Chelsea got a few long trips.
Werder and Inter will batter tottenham so that’s them fucked.
I hope we win the cl because it’s going to hit us hard in the pl. But that’s what it’s all about and that’s what we know how to handle.
Still don’t understand how we get pl away games after almost every cl away game but fuck it.
