Harry Redknapp has today claimed that Tottenham have got one over Arsenal by signing William Gallas.
“He knows he is going to get some flak from the Arsenal fans but his signing is one-up for us. Tottenham fans should be thinking, ‘Hang on, we have got one over on them here’.”

Firstly, let me just clear up one thing for Tottenham fans, and more importantly Mr Redknapp, we never wanted to keep hold of Gallas.
Don’t get me wrong, he was a quality player, and I’m not going to slag him off after joining Tottenham. But the fact is, Arsene Wenger wasn’t convinced he had it in him, and pretty much every mediocre club in Europe turned him down before he opted for Spurs.
The difference between William Gallas and Sol Campbell is that Campbell was an absolute Tottenham legend at the time, and they did all they could to keep him. Also, at the time, he was possibly the best centre-back in England. Tottenham haven’t signed this sort of player.
I actually wish Gallas well, because I’ve always had a soft spot the player, regardless what many Arsenal fans think of him. He was a great player for Chelsea, and a scapegoat at Arsenal. And, he had a decent final season for us. But sadly to say, we’ve seen the best of William Gallas. The time has come to put his feet up and take it easy for a season or two. I’m surprised he didn’t sign for New York Red Bulls to be fair.
Harry Redknapp also went onto say that Patrick Vieira was keen to play for Tottenham last season. Again, he is a player who was no longer wanted by Arsene Wenger, and last season’s performances for Man City proved Wenger right once again.

Arsène Wenger has put contract talks with William Gallas on hold so that he can focus on forthcoming fixtures. However, the Frenchman is confident the centre-back will be an Arsenal player next season.
Gallas is out of contract in the summer but talks are ongoing to renew his deal.
But with important Premier League matches and both legs of the Champions League Quarter-Final with Barcelona to come over the next few weeks, Wenger has turned his attention to strictly on-pitch matters.
“There is no update [on Gallas' contract talks],” said Wenger at his pre-match press conference on Thursday. “In the next two or three weeks we will not deal with any contract because we have games every three days and we will focus on our targets.
“I feel we are winning the battle to keep him but in this domain you have to be open and be ready for anything.
“He is in a position where he is free to sign for anybody he wants and tomorrow somebody could come up and offer him a massive amount of money and I don’t know if he will sign or not.
“He knows we want to keep him and that we make an effort but it has to be, as it always has been historically, within our set budget.”

As for Gallas, we did want him, but not enough to offer a multi-year contract. His attitude has never matched his ability. So, he decided he’d try his luck, almost certainly thinking that the world would come begging for his services.
Several months later, in desperation he jumps to Spurs. A coup? Hardly. But a good signing. I like Spurs as *someone* needs to take fifth or seventh place each season. They keep the “almost good” spots warm.

Well it cannot be compared the situation between Campbell and Gallas. Campbell was real deal, the center half wanted from anyone. He decided to come to us. Gallas on the other hand is a mediocre player that if Wenger wanted to keep him he would offer him something more. Gallas thought he can find better deal but soon was disillusioned and caught the last train called Yidos (the land of abandoned). Thus, best thing from the Gooners side would be to ignore him completely, just to show him he isn’t worth of any chant.
I really didn’t want this to turn into loads of Tottenham fans banging on about how their club are going forward. I really didn’t. If anymore Tottenham fans indicate towards their club “going places”, or challenging for one of the big trophies, then your comment is going to be deleted.

On a sensible note though. The Gallas situation is nothing like the Campbell situ. Campbell was in hbis prime, a ‘so-called’ Tottenham fan from a kid, came through the ranks, became our captain and went to our biggest rivals on a free at a point where we needed him the most.
The only comparable fact between now and then is that Gallas has been your captain at some point. I feel the Spurs fans will accept Gallas because:
a) need a fit centre back
b) his links with Arsenal are minimal compared to Campbells links to Tottenham.

I can confidently say that Chelski, United and the Arse will finish in the top 3 once again. And if I were to predict the 4th spot finish, I would without a doubt hand it to Liverpool. Terrible as they might have been last season, their quality still outdoes yours by a considerable margin.
Though Spurs finished 4th last season, they have a laughable amount of experience in the UCL. I hope that at some point (assuming you don’t get your asses handed to you by the Young Boys) during the competition, you face what it’s like to have your team travel to Godknowswhereland every few weeks to face some team you feel you will surely beat, and end up with a draw or worse, a loss. Even scarier when you let in 3 goals or more.
Add that to risk of injuries (which will sky-rocket once you play CL football) and you might find yourself struggling to stay mid-table come January.
Wake up and smell the coffee, Spuds. Finishing 4th one season does not mean finishing above Arsenal the next season.

Liverpool is NOT Bern. Even with a man down they cannot be mentioned together in the same breadth. How can you even make such a comparison? Unless of course, you are implying that Arsenal and Tottenham have an equally large gap in quality and ability. (I’m not even suggesting such a thing)

Arsenal is a far better and far more respected club. it is a fact. over here in Malaysia, we follow the BPL as if it is our lifeline. and know what? until now, in my 10 years of watching the BPL, i have never met a Spurs fan in my nation. Arsenal, Liverpool, ManUtd, and Chelsea fans are aplenty. Real Madrid and Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter also have quite a following. ManCity have a few here and there. but no Spurs. i have not met even ONE, and i have a TON of football fanatics as friends.
the simple reason is: Malaysians don’t live in UK, and as such are only exposed to teams who perform very well in competitions, particularly over the last 20 years. you will see than all the sports channels (ESPN, StarSports, etc) in Malaysia gives priority to games played by the top 4. the other teams only get shown if there is extra screen time. looks like Spurs are not in that category.
i challenge you to prove to me that there exists a country where the number of Spurs fans outnumber those of Arsenal, Liverpool, etc. you can search forever and find none.
success is measured by popularity. and over here, i can hardly call Spurs popular.
