According to Spanish club Sevilla, Arsenal are in talks with French international defender Sebastien Squillaci over a potential move.
Arsenal fans have been screaming for ‘experienced’ signings, and the 30-year-old has over 300 games under his belt, including 20 caps for France. If we do sign Mark Schwarzer of Fulham too, then these two could be pivotal signings for us this season.
I’ll be honest, I’ve not seen much of Squallici, so I’m in no position to judge what sort of player he is. The fact that he’s experienced and a full international is enough to excite me though.
I actually work with a French lad, who’s a Lyon and Arsenal fan, and he’s absolutely ecstatic with the possibility of Arsenal signing the Frenchman.
I still think Arsenal will sign Mark Schwarzer AND another centre-back on top of Squillaci. Will this be enough to shut up the anti-Wenger fans who complain about our manager never making the signings we need? I doubt it, as they’ll just find something else to moan about.
I’m amazed that people are already slagging off Arsene Wenger for not signing a keeper and a centre-back, yet we’ve still got over a week left until the transfer window closes. Let the man get on with his business, as he’s clearly on the lookout for players, but these things take time.
Seeing as I backed Walcott to get the first goal at 6/1 against Blackpool, I’m going to go ahead with another fancy prediction for the Man City v Liverpool game tonight. Paddy Power have Fernando Torres at 11/2 for the first goal tonight. I fancy 1-1.

I reckon Tevez will be 1st scorer, and if City play 4-4-2 with him n Barndoor up front they will win 2 nil.
I just don’t think City have ‘gelled’ yet, and it’s going to take time. They’ve no doubt got the players to win the Premiership, but it won’t happen yet.
Tevez was actually the first player I was looking at for first goalscorer.

If Wenger was to sign Schwarzer, then he would’ve signed 4 players this season.

Micky D, don’t get me wrong, I think Shay Given is an absolutely fantastic shot-stopper, one of the best around. But I don’t think that’s what Arsenal need, as we don’t get peppered with shots for 90 minutes. The key ingredients for us is a goalkeeper who is commanding, and concentration is key. That’s just my opinion though, I’m sure Arsenal fans are divided on this one
Also, I don’t think Man City would be willing to sell Given to Arsenal.

Bet this signing will have the suicidal Arsenal brigade up in arms. Reality is he’s solid (not world class) & experienced with years of top flight international & CL experience who will be excellent cover.
He’s not to replace Gallas (Koscielny is already here) for that & Squillaci is a lot better than Silvestre or Senderos. He’s tough, not super quick but will do a job. And he’s not £20 mill like Bolton hilariously wanted for Cahill!
George, you’re right, I was a bit harsh on calling Eduardo ‘deadwood’. He was just being played out of position and no longer fitted into our new formation. He’s scored 2 in 3 for his new club.
Simon, I totally agree mate. Cahill would be a joke signing at £20m. Another Englishman who some fans would like to sign is Micah Richards. He is absolutely useless.
No way do we need another CB after Squillaci! Once we sign him we will have 4 quality CBs for the first time in years. Add to that Song who could play there if necessary and we are definately well stocked in that position.
I would say Defensive midfield is more of a worry since Frimpong’s injury. But Diaby is looking improved on last season and if Denilson improves too we should be ok there too.
In all honesty if we capture Schwarzer before the window closes I will be very happy with our squad and very excited at what they could do this season!

Surely being loaned again to the championship is stagnation for Lansbury?
He’s done his year in the championship now, isn’t it time for him to try his luck in a top tier league?
Maybe premiership teams would be hard to break in to, but surely he’s good enough to try the top leagues in France or Germany like Nordveit did?
if he is sent to the championship again, I seriously doubt he will make it at Arsenal.
