There is no such thing as a genuine news story any more.
We live in a world where people are eager to comment on events that are yet to happen, and to give heartfelt opinions on ideas that remain pure conjecture. The result is a melee of meaningless mush that is almost impossible to wade through.
Will Cesc go to Barcelona? Will Barcelona have the money to pay his wages? (To pay anyone’s wages?) Did Cesc look upset when he was forced to wear the Barcelona shirt? Why does Puyol still have a perm?
Although most of this rubbish is simply there to antagonise true supporters, some stories do raise serious questions. For example, who does Iniesta think he is, wishing Arsenal’s captain the best of luck in his ‘last season at the club’? And, most importantly of all, who is that bearded Spanish git, that Guillain-Barre bloke, who claims to be an expert on all things connected to the beautiful game? And why doesn’t he admit that his real name is in fact acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy?
On the plus side, this insatiable drive for future news does produce some amusing stories. In the past week or so, Harry’s revelation that ‘Spurs can win the title’ was eclipsed, but only just, by the horrifying prospect of Cheryl Cole (sorry, Tweedy) ‘losing her voice’ as a result of malaria. What voice? What title?
What bollocks.
Arsenal supporters can frequently be heard moaning that the club is reluctant to announce signings until the ‘i’s have been dotted and the ‘t’s crossed. And then re-crossed with permanent marker. In red.
But the fact remains that Arsenal do things properly – they actually wait until a player has been signed before announcing… that a player has been signed. Arsene talks about winning the title when it looks like the title might be won, not before a ball has been kicked.
Tradition and truth. Not meaningless mush.
Rejoice in the difference.

Hear, hear
Good article.
Top post. Spot on.
It should be pointed out however that a simple and CLEAR statement from Cesc would stop the rumour mill once and for all.
He’s given numerous clear statements of intent and they always get misconstrued. The guys honest and it is the media who twists the words for a story. It’s simple, he loves our club and would like nothing more than to win trophies as our captain over the next few years. One day though, he would like to return to Barca as it is his home. Very clear in my view. I just wish other players were as honest.
I agree wholeheartedly, I too get fed up with the rumour trash spouted by most of the media. It is full of comments preceded by “it is believed”, “sources report” , “X is thought to have” or “it is rumoured”, you know the sort of thing. How about reporting actual NEWS that has actually happened. By the way J D Gooner I recall Cesc coming out with a statement before the World Cup after meeting with A Wenger. It stated quite plainly that he was happy to leave the matter of his immediate future in Arsenes hands. That seems clear enough to me.
“melee of meaningless mush”.
Brilliant.
@ Artful and dogsp . . . What planet are you living on???? Do you honestly believe that Cesc is 100% convinced that he wants to play his football at the Emirates next season? I don’t think so. The premise of your argument is that all of his Barca “team-mates” have been lying when they said that Cesc TOLD THEM he wants to play for Barca next season. If that is the case why hasn’t Cesc issued a statement saying as much!!
Dogsplodge,
you left out that old fave “xxx insists that……..” when xxx has in fact done nothing other than answer yet another vacuous question, the answer to which needs to be twisted beyond that which laws of physics deem possible in order to produce a headline patently tendentious to the writers viewpoint.
Great article Kevin.
Heh: Friction has a way of burning away opinions and a lot of other stuff.
It is rumoured that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has urged Messi to join him at the Emirates next season. Accordingly Arsene Wenger is thought to be preparing a bid for the Barcalona player who is curently believed to be unhappy with the financial situation at the Nou Camp.
Messi linked with Gunners move:
The failure of Lionel Messi to deny rumours that he is unhappy at the Nou Camp have fueled speculation that the Barca star may join Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates. He has been reported as saying that he’d love to play alongside Cesc in the future, and that he has great respect for Arsenal star Theo Walcott.
Asenal in Messi swoop?
News on the rumour mill in the UK suggests that
Arsene Wenger has set his sights on unsettled Barca star, Lionel Messi. The Argentinian international was a boyhood friend of Cesc Fabregas & has stated his desire to play club football again with the Gunners captain. None of the parties have denied the rumours but the Catalan Club are known to be heavily in debt and
may well be tempted to cash in & accept an offer. from Arsenal
Team mate urges Messi to join Gunners
Compatriot & Arsenal stopper, Almunia, would love to see Messi at the Emirates. He’s a world class player. Yes, I think it’s possible..in football you can never say never!!!
Lets just hope that we can get the players we need for this season
great article mate
Messi’s dad in talks with Arsenal
Messi’s dad was spotted in North London on Monday, according to sources, and was believed to be in discussions with Arsenal.
Sources indicate that Messi, the 2009 Ballon d’or, UEFA and FIFA World player of the year has grown increasingly frustrated at the frequent failures to be paid.
According to Arsenal star, Theo Walcott, Messi has “Arsenal DNA” in his blood. “Of course he is the best player in the world, and the best players all want to be together in the best team, even if it means having to sit on the bench. It is his destiny to join us one day. If not this season, then the next. In fact, you can see that we are just “loaning” him to Barca for now. You can never say never in football, who knows?”
Arsenal are believed to be extremely interested, and inside sources indicate that the North London club are preparing a “serious” offer of 15Million Euros for the 2009 Ballon d’or, UEFA and FIFA World player of the year.
This may or may not be enough to tempt Barceloanus to part with their star player, who is contracted to them for the next 50 years.
Messi Gunners deal agreed:
After reliable sources confirmed that Messis dad
had reportedly been seen in London to negotiate the long term future of the Barca ace, it is now believed that a deal has been agreed and signed. Sources at the Emirates couldn’t reveal details of the deal but believed that once they’d spoken to Barca it would just be a matter of time. “No one at the Nou Camp is currently prepared to talk about this, but it is not a problem for us.”
Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
