Arsene Wenger has urged two of his midfielders to put their World Cup disappointments behind them and show the footballing world how they good they are by firing Arsenal to the Premier League title.
Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri were both expected to be among their country’s parties for the World Cup in South Africa, however they did not make England or France’s squads respectively.
Gunners boss Wenger has admitted it was a “massive surprise” that neither of the midfielders was picked for the World Cup and he can understand how Walcott and Nasri must find the shun “difficult to swallow”.
However, England’s World Cup betting odds have drifted lately and Fabio Capello could live to regret his decision.
The French boss is facing a busy summer overhauling his Arsenal squad and building a side that are capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season – and he wants Walcott and Nasri to be the catalysts for this in order to prove to the world what quality players they still are.
“I hope they can transform that in the future of their career into even higher motivation, and come back with even more desire to show how good they are,” he said.
The online betting suggests Arsenal should be challenging for the title again, but they will need to bring in a few new faces.
A new midfield colleague could join the duo at the Emirates over the summer, as Wenger has admitted he is interested in Joe Cole.
The player, who is at the World Cup as part of the England squad, is leaving Chelsea as he is out of contract and the Arsenal manager has told Sky Sports that he does “like” Cole as he can create and score.
