Barcelona star linked with Arsenal

With Barcelona and Arsenal both playing hard-ball over the potential sale of Cesc Fabregas, the agent of Yaya Toure is claiming that Arsenal are keen to take the Barcelona star to Arsenal as part of the deal.

Arsene Wenger likes him and Arsenal are interested.

If the conditions are good, everything can be finished soon.

He could come into the Cesc deal and Barca and Arsenal are struggling to come to an agreement.

Barcelona have slapped a €35million (£29m) price tag on the midfielder, which is amazingly the same price that Barcelona have offered for our Spanish maestro. Personally, if Barcelona are bidding a measly £29m for Fabregas, then I’d be likely to counter-act that offer with a £10m offer for Toure. I’m not saying Toure is a bad player at all, but by comparison, Fabregas is worth three times more.

If Toure was to be part of any deal taking Fabregas to Barcelona, then I get the feeling Arsenal will be looking for at least £30m plus the player. For me, that would be great business, and give Arsene Wenger more than enough funds to improve the squad.

I heard a rumour yesterday about the Fabregas/Wenger conversation behind closed doors, which basically went a bit like this:

Fabregas: “Mr Wenger, I would like to leave Arsenal”

Wenger: “Well, Cesc, let me show you a list I’ve compiled, detailing the three players I’m going to sign in the summer”

Fabregas: “Ok, Mr Wenger, show me the list”

Arsene Wenger shows Fabregas his list of players.

Fabregas: “I’d like to go to Barcelona please Mr Wenger”

If this rumour was to be true, then it can’t be good news for Arsenal fans, let alone Cesc Fabregas. Let’s assume our three summer signings are going to be Chamakh and two unknowns! But I’m only assuming of course.

Even though Yaya is good and all, I hope Wenger has the self respect not to go for a player he once could have had for under €5m. Anything more than 20m for him would be crazy, and the only reason I think its worth it is that he can also play centerback so his versatality is worth it.

  2. I just don’t think he’s the sort of player we need. We need a defensive midfielder, but only one who’s willing to play second fiddle to Song. Unless Wenger is thinking of filling the midfield three with Song, Toure and Nasri. At least that midfield would add a bit of steel.

Conversely, Song could move alongside Vermaelen and Toure cover the back four or vice versa. That’s another way of looking at it. However, Toure has already publicly stated that Arsenal is not his preference and we have enough players at the club lauding other clubs but ours, we don’t need another one who looks like going the through the motions rather than giving 110% for the club’s cause.

Toure wants his six figure a week Barca wages and Wenger doesn’t allow anyone to hold Arsenal for ransom.

I’m not sure about that meeting I got this feeling that he is waiting for after the world cup. If fabregas has a stellar world cup and Spain win it, there’s no doubt in my mind that his price will escalate. I figure that if the inevitable is going to happen then they will want to play this game to break barca balls they might have swept us aside on the pitch but not in the boardroom. I think cesc has been spoken to about this in detail and perhaps the game against barca was the bait for them to go for fabregas. Wenger will push diaby into that spot and if he can pluck toure and 35 mil the world cup might seal the deal but I think the deal is off is Spain fail. IMO

Fabregas will stay with us. He has so much love for Wenger and Arsenal.

  8. Lanz

The same agent said earlier on, “Yaya is going to England but not to Arsenal”. He later said d deal was as good as done but again, not to Arsenal. So, wot has brought about all this talk, Barca didn’t play ball?

Sky Sports also have Toure agent saying Man City have no money? Obviously he was banking then to meet large wage demands and transfer fee.

I don’t want Toure to join us anymore, he snubbed us last year and signed a contract extention, only for him to be benched this year cos Barca reportedly did not want to pay full wages & bonus. Barca were smart as Toure could of left for free in 2011 and would not be able to demand anything like 35m with only 1 year left on his contract.

I think italian clubs as well as Man U might be interested if barca drop price IMO. I am not sure Chelsea are interested.

This is an interesting one to watch because keeping yaya on the bench reduces his value and makes a unhappy player. Its clear the agent has been trying to drum up interest and has now found that there is not as much interest in him as anticipated. Lack of interest from major clubs will also reduce bargining power of barca and wage demands.

Yaya & agent were quite dismissive of Arsenal interest early on. Now it seems he is trying to relink player to us.

The question really is now do Arsenal want a player that possibly sees our club as inferior and is only considering us because of limited other choices?

Wouldn’t Touré be a bit slow for the PL, compared – let’s say – to a player like Stéphane M’bia (who is quicker and more versatile)?

IMO, May be Touré is not the real deal. But it’s just the opinion of a supporter. A coach (or a manager) must know better.

On M’bia: he is a very good DM + top defender, quick, tall, strong, intelligent and technical. Central defense seems to be the position where he’s at his very very best (as left-sided CB with Marseille and as right-sided CB with Rennes and Cameroon), although he’s a very good holding mid. But he prefers playing as DM because he likes to run forward, especially on counter-attacks, since he has a good ball control, is quick with the ball and can score goals.

He has joined Marseille last year and has a buy-out clause of 10m Euro (£15m?). This could be a hindrance, but he is only 24 and tailor-made for the PL.

He has joined Marseille last year and has a buy-out clause of 18m Euro (£15m?).

sorry, the buy-out clause of M’bia is 18 millions Euro, not 10.

Oh forget him sign schweinstiger + cicinho and sell fabregas …..Sell clichy and sign lahm…

i think we’re gonna sign everyone for free this season. joe cole for free and probably another lanky defender or midfielder for free. that’s 3 players done. wenger’s job done.

  14. Steve

By not signing yaya years ago when he had two separate chances to do so, wenger made a big mistake that is coming back to haunt him. Now wenger has to pay up, the problem is not yaya, he just wants to play and be paid fairly.

Our pay structure is so completely absurd that we overpay some and underpay others, that’s not going to work in the marketplace where you have to pay what the player is worth to get them, it’s all well and good to negotiate, but we are now a kiddie club(cesc knows) and to prove that we are serious we need to cough up the dosh to bring in the right players to challenge for honours.

No more excuses or nonsense from wenger and the board.
