It’s that time of the season again, where I decide to give my thoughts on the best players to grace the Premiership this season.
It’s a tough one this season, as only a few players really stand out, but I’m going to give it my best shot. Please feel free to disagree and send on your own team.
1. Joe Hart – This is one of the easiest choices. Not many goalkeepers have really stood out this season, but the Birmingham keeper has really shone, and he’s one of the main reasons behind the teams great season.
2. Bacary Sagna – It’s not been the greatest season for Sagna, but I’m going to plump for him as being the best right-back this season amongst a bad bunch. It’s probably the one position that the Premiership has not seen some stand out performers from. The season started with the likes of Glen Johnson and Boswinga being the likely candidates, but both players have been rocked by injury. Gary Neville is as good as dead. The only other candidate I can think of is possibly Luke Young of Aston Villa.
5. Thomas Vermaelen – Some eyebrows were raised when we sold Kolo Toure, and splashed out a few quid to sign the young Belgian international. He settled in literally straight away, and has been one of the main reasons for our race for the Premiership this season. He’s also the highest scoring defender in the Premiership. He’s unlike any other Premiership defender; he has the tenacity and bravery of Vidic with the elegance and class of Ferdinand.
6. Richard Dunne – Surplus to requirements at Man City, after the club signed Toure and Lescott, and Martin O’Neill snapped him up for £5m. Personally, I thought he was a bad signing, and very over-priced at the beginning of the season, but he’s been absolutely fantastic for Villa, who have the best defensive record in the Premiership.
3. Patrice Evra – I don’t think anyone can argue against this one. He’s a horrible little bastard of a player, but he’s also the best left-back in Europe in my opinion.
7. Aaron Lennon – Has been out with an injury for quite some time now, but he’s still been the best right-midfielder in the Premiership. As an Arsenal fan, it’s hard to include a Tottenham player in my Premiership team of 2009/10, but I’m trying not to let my biased opinion get the better of my choices.
4. Cesc Fabregas – Has been absolutely fantastic. He’ll definitely be up for the PFA Player of the Year this year, but I think he’ll lose it to Rooney if I’m honest. Cesc has been the key for Arsenal this season, and it’s imperative that we keep hold of him in the summer.
8. Darren Fletcher – Possibly the most under-rated midfielder in the Premiership. He’s finally come out of the shadow of Scholes, and he’s thriving on the responsibility. He makes Man United tick, he’s a workhorse, and he adds a lot of steel to a somewhat light-weight Man United midfield.
9. Carlos Tevez – I’m sure he is Alex Ferguson’s biggest regret as a manager. If he was at Man United right now, then I’m sure they would’ve been at least 6-9 points better off this season. Scorer of important goals, and possibly the hardest working striker in the Premiership.
10. Wayne Rooney – After the sale of Ronaldo, someone at Man United had to come out of their shell, and Rooney sure has done that. 23 league goals so far this season, and he’s looking absolutely unstoppable. As much as I hate to admit it, he’s the player of the season for me.
11. Didier Drogba – If Arsenal could sign one player in the Premiership, I would have to go with Drogba. Not just because he causes us problems, he causes every team problems. He’s an absolute nightmare to play against; he’s strong and quick, has a great touch, and the boy can finish with both feet and his head. Probably the perfect striker if there was one in the Premiership.
Honorary mentions to the following players – Alex Song, Jermaine Defoe, Bobby Zamora, James Milner, Steven Pienaar, Scott Dan, Darren Bent, Dirk Kuyt, Gary Cahill, William Gallas, Robin van Persie and Marouane Fellaini.
To summarise, this is my final team for season 2009/10 so far:
Hart
Sagna Vermaelen Dunne Evra
Lennon Fabregas Fletcher
Rooney Tevez
Drogba
I’ll be interested to know what everyone else’s thoughts are, and what your team would be.

BEST 11 WHEN ALL ARE FIT AN YOU KNOW IT…
Sagna has had a down year, hard to put someone in there that you would say is a below average year for them. Would say that both Ivanovic and Corluka have had better years at RB.
I would have to include Song in the midfield 3, has been the best defensive midfielder in the league this year, with Essien and Mascherano having down years.
Given
Ivanovic—Dunne—Vermaelen—Evra
Song
Fabregas—Lampard
Tevez—Rooney—Drogba
If you don’t feel there is a good RB in the league, then why select one. Just put in a different formation.
And Brad Friedel has been the best GK in the league hands down. Hart is becoming a very good GK, but early in the year wasn’t impressive and has only caught so much attention because he is english and the England GK job is up for grabs.
Friedel
Dunne—Terry—Vermaelen
Milner—Fabregas—Song—Lampard
Tevez—Rooney—Drogba
I don`t know enough about EPL players to offer a favourite eleven but I`ll say one thing. If I had the choice of signing just two of your selected eleven the first would be Joe Hart and I couldn`t resist Drogba.

respect for leaving the bias out!
classy touch and proves you have an intelligent football brain! haha
drogba is a monster!
to be fair to rooney, he is scoring with his head all day now. and he also gets a lot of assists and works so hard for the team, so i think he’s currently better than drogba. that said, no one shits up opposition centre backs like him loitering around all game, even when he doesn’t touch the god damn ball they are terrified of him!
