CHELSEA 2-0 ARSENAL: PLAYER RATINGS

What a shitty week we have had!

Our Premiership challenge is now all but over. Not mathematically, but realistically I can’t see us doing it now. We’ve come back from bigger deficits, but I just don’t see it happening this season.

Wenger will now put all his eggs in, and fully charged forward for the Champions League. Some people may laugh at the idea of us winning the Champions League, but it’s a cup at the end of the day, and anything can happen. Porto, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have proved that in recent years.

Anyway, back to yesterdays depressing defeat. We totally outplayed a full-strength Chelsea side, but going forward we just didn’t create enough clear-cut chances, and our most feared opponent, Drogba, capitalized on that and caused the damage once again. What I’d do for a player like Drogba at Arsenal. 100% the type of player we are lacking.

Onto the player ratings..

  • Almunia (3) - Not good enough in my opinion. Maybe I’m being a little harsh on him, but that second went straight through him.
  • Sagna (6) – Not a great performance from Sagna, but not too shocking. His crossing is absolutely diabolical.
  • Gallas / Vermaelan (7.5) – I thought they both did well yesterday. You can blame Vermaelan for the second goal, but I’d rather blame Clichy if I’m honest.
  • Clichy (4) – He’s clearly lacking match fitness. The second goal was 100% his fault. Why he came across to the cover the centre back when Drogba was out on the left on his own, is beyond me.
  • Song (6.5) - Not his greatest game for Arsenal, but he did break up a lot of the Chelsea play at times.
  • Fabregas (7) - I’m a little indifferent about Cesc’s performance, so I’m going to sit on the fence.
  • Nasri (6) - Once again, Nasri looked a little hot and cold. His best position is the position behind the forward, where everyone wants to play, but that position doesn’t exist at Arsenal at the moment.
  • Walcott (2) – Absolutely diabolical. He tracked back and prevented Ashley Cole from scoring, but that was all he did. He needs to wake up.
  • Diaby (7) – Again, similar to Nasri, he was a little bit hit and miss for me. But he did look good at times. As much as I used to batter him, I do think we’ve missed him in recent weeks.
  • Arshavin (6) – I’ll be honest with you, I absolutely have no idea what rating to give Arshavin. He probably worked tirelessly off the ball, but I didn’t go to Stamford Bridge, so I’m giving my viewpoint as an armchair viewer on this one.

Subs:

  • Eboue (7) - I thought he looked sharp when he came on. Direct and fearless.
  • Rosicky / Bendtner (6.5) - Both looked pretty decent when they came on. We need to start with Bendtner against Liverpool if we are going to bang that ball long. He gives us an option we don’t have at the moment.

One major observation from the last two games, is that Clichy and Almunia really need to pick their game up. At the moment, they are just not doing it. Walcott is another player who looks absolutely abysmal at the moment, and if he wasn’t English then I’m sure most of the Arsenal fans would be crucifying him.

One more thing, why won’t someone just chin Ashley Cole!? The bloke is a fucking weasel. And he’s another one who’s 100% fucked Wayne Bridges’s ex-missus. Doesn’t matter to be fair, as Cheryl Cole went through half the Newcastle squad a few years back. Don’t want to mention names, because that would be unfair on Lee Bowyer and Keiron Dyer.

Liverpool on Wednesday, and this is one game I am confident we will win. It won’t be easy, as they’ve hit a bit of form, but I’m sure we have what it takes to knock their confidence to challenge us for third place.

  • Unfair on Lee Bowyer and Dyer, that one made me laugh out loud!

  • Good blog man. Spot on with everything here.

  • Not as confident of the outcome even-though we are home. We will have to defend much better, as well as actually score probably more than one goal to win.

  • I would give walcott a little higher rating. he did stop cashley from scoring… and to be honest…that would be like having chelsea score like 4 goals.

I was impressed with Eboue… used to dislike him quite a bit but he is a good dribbler and can get past his man fairly easy….

CLichy needs to be shipped off….

I like the Gallas and Vermaelen… both like to attack and the only knock I have on them is that they need to stay back sometimes… especially on the counter.

I loved how Gallas was trying to score at the end by himself. I know he used to be a forward back in his early days. I admire how he himself tried to score in the box with all of our free kicks and crosses. His header just missed the target. I love how he takes it on himself to try and score… and he and TV have done that quite a bit this year. Gallas and TV are true warriors who want to win. I enjoy watching them play

  • Diaby is the man – the difference between our performance against the chavs and against the mancs.

  • Im feeling the worst time in my life we didnt deserve that score line we could get 1-1 after drogbas goal but for me arshavin have alot of fault in that pass from cesc the man of the match for me was vermaelen that fight for every single ball well my point of view are we need a striker cause cleary arshavin are just making excuses and not giving 100% of him we miss alot rvp maybe nicklas could be that striker but wegner are just blind with arshavin the two subs that he needs to make are arshavin for nicklas and nasri that miss 2 of our best chances just like arshavin for rosicky we need some one like rvp who give 100% of him for this club hope we made changes for liverpool game..
    From Guatemala An Arsenal Fan
We deserve more we proudly are a winners and dont deserve to loose to a no history team like chelsea…

  • Arsenal have had too many injuries and to many of those players aren’t fit enough yet. Bendtner, Eduardo, Vela, Nasri, Rosicky, Walcott, Clichy all not fit yet.

We really needed to strenghten in january to have a real shot.
We need a world class goalkeeper, you only buy one goalkeeper so you might as well spend a little for this all to important position.
Wenger is waiting too long to buy a central defender, a young quality player like vermaelen to be the future central defender taking over for gallas.
We also absolutely need a striker, tall, can keep posession, the way it looks will be Chamakh, for free in the summer.
    Maybe another CM.
People talking about getting rid of Walcott, Bendtner, Vela, Clichy, are just plain crazy and don’t know anything about soccer. Those players are not fit yet and need more time and playingtime.
They are all young and will become great player, they will come good.

  • Edin…no offense but your last sentence sums it up.
Arsenal need the polished product…not this endless waiting game for players to blossom. the last 5 years have been the waiting game.

this club has a great tradition. it is important to keep that winning tradition growing by being competitive.

we have a youth system for developing players. I dont need to see them on the first team learning on the job… we need talented and ready to go players….

our team is pretty much unchanged for the last 4-5 years…. what have you seen? any massive gains?

  • To win the cl we have to win at least one of them- manu, chelsea, barca, real. We cannot beat them with this seek squad. We a little chance to win the pl. If we get 37 out of39. That also very unrealistic.

  • I think it’s time for sagna to be kicked out of the starting eleven… And give Eboue a good run of games. He has more to offer than sagna.

  • eboue really deserves to be in the starting 11 on the RW, he is fast, strong and can go past full backs unlike walcott or even rosicky and nasri. he always runs his nuts off and gives 110 percent. his speed and defensive qualities would also help to support sagna which would make our right side solid.

btw it is wengers fault that arshavin has had a crap season cos he wouldnt buy a proper striker and plays someone who is 5 nd a half ft as a lone striker. it really annoys me that people hate arshavin and they cant see that wenger is a stubborn old man who wont spend!

  • I totally agree, I think we need to give Eboue a start. He adds an energy that we are missing and he seems to have kicked his petulance out of his game.
