ALMUNIA AND CLICHY STRUGGLE TO COME TO TERMS WITH MAN UNITED FIREPOWER

The subject line is probably a bit of an understatement to be fair. Clichy struggled from the off with the pace and skill of Nani, and Almunia was left flapping at times.

This isn’t the first time our goalkeeper and left-back have been up for critisism, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We were playing against a Man United team on top of their game, and everyone has bad days. Almunia and Clichy have had more bad days than others, but I don’t think we can doubt the quality both players have on their day. Clichy has just got back from a long-term injury, and is clearly lacking match fitness, and Almunia just had a bad day. I disagree with a lot of fans on the criticism of Almunia, as I don’t think he’s as bad as everyone makes out.

I’m not going to get into player ratings this week, as I’m just too pissed off to do it if I’m honest.

Arshavin has had a few haters after today’s game, but I actually thought he did well. He was up-front on his own, and Man United failed to cope with him early on. Yes, he should have scored one or two goals in the first 15-20 minutes, but he done well to get where he got, especially running from deep.

The season isn’t over yet, and we need a great run to keep us in the hunt for the Premiership. Yes, you heard me, I said it’s not over yet. The Premiership has a lot of hurdles left in it yet.

Personally, I’d rather Man United win the Premiership than Chelsea. Man United have tradition, they play decent football, and there has always been that mutual respect between the two clubs. As much as we hate to admit it.

In other news, Murray lost the tennis. No doubt he’ll be Scottish in the press tomorrow. He’ll be British again when he reaches another Grand Slam final.

  1. WTFARSENAL

Again wengers ignorance proves to be costly for arsenal, countless times it’s been so OBVIOUS that arsenal need a Rooney, need a thierry henry, and even more obviously a goal keeper. Almunia is a wreck, look at the keepers of the best teams in the world: van de sar, pepe reina, petre cech, casillas, in my opinion jo hart is waaay better than him. How does arsene wenger even contemplate winning a trophy with the likes of almunia and even worse denilson, they need to go as far away from arsenal as possible…… What has happened to the Arsenal?

  2. Ryan O

To be fair to Arsene and the team, we’ve had a lot of injuries to key players, especially strikers. Van Persie has been out, Bendtner has been out, and Eduardo hasn’t hit form. I just blame bad luck.

  3. GoonerGaz

We cannot win anything without a defence or credible forward line up.We are fighting for third place which is about right for our current available team………….i mean Arshavin up front, Walcot as a sub to change the game,do me a favour.

  4. stantheman

Bottom Line Fact: We will not, I repeat not win another major trophy under Wenger and this is not just about money – Enjoy the pretty football ! from a gutted gooner.

  5. FLECK

WHOEVER WROTE THIS HASNT A CLUE! IF THEY DID THEY’D SEE THE PERF FOR WHAT IT WAS A VERY OFF GAME ON ARSENALS BEHALF, LETS GET TOGETHER AND PUT IN A GREAT SHOW AGAINT CHELSEA. IF U WANT TO TALK ABOUT PERF. VERMAELEN WAS 1, NOT FAR OFF WAS ROSICKY , DENILSON AND SONG , FABS (WHO PERSONALLY I THOUGHT WAS CRAP) AND ARSHAVIN WHO THINKS HE HAS TO BE THE STAR IN OUR TEAM WILE VAN PERSIES’ OUT . NEED TO SIGN QUAILITY PLAYERS AS WENGER KNOWS ,NOT HAS BEENS FOR BUTTONS IE SOL! HEARD WE WERE IN FOR VILLA , SUITS ME SIR!. WOULD ADD WAT MOST OF THEM CANNT DO FINISH!! AND A TRACK RECORD TO PROVE IT
NOT WORRIED ABOUT £30 MILL COS HE’S WORTH IT

if i saw denilson in the street i would kick the shit out of him. useless wanker!

  7. WillyG

I don’t blame Almunia or Denilson. They are just not Arsenal material and for them to be playing at this level is just asking too much of them. I doubt if any of them can start in any of the top ten teams.
I blame Wenger for playing them.

  8. Alfa-9

with Teves and Ronaldo gone and O’Shea, vidic and Ferdinand absent, i thought we had a chance to finally dominate and humiliate united but to their credit they’ve proved me and many gooner fans wrong.

gooner fans, quit looking for excuses. man u sold their biggest stars and they have old age pensioners playing for them and yet they still wiped the floor with us.

what an amazing bunch of idiots arsene has collected arround him. walcot who’s injured all the time. v. persie who’s injured in a friendly, clishy who’s busy drinking milkshake and getting photographed while doing so, arsene even bought couple of rejects (galas-Silvestre) and he wants to win trophies.

well done chelsea and united. maybe arsene will get a wake up call when he looses 4th position and does not qualify for europe

fleck, dont be a bloody fool. are you are a scum fan in disguise? Vermaelen a perf? Cesc was crap? And please, im sick of hearing clueless nobodies say Arshavin is selfish. Try playing up front with no support whatsoever and when you’re a second striker-playmaker to boot. Arshavin should be congratulated for actually creating something, not like some clueless losers who palm the ball into their own net and then casually have a walk in the park and pass the ball straight to the opposition from goal! Of course we would all love David Villa, but you must be deluded if you think Arsene will break the bank to buy him. Has everyone forgotten how many goals, and crucial, matchwinning ones against the top teams at that, Arshavin has already scored for us in two half-seasons? Anyone who is giving Arshavin fleck should just bugger off and support the scum.

It was clear that Denilson was not worth the spot in such a big game, gave no protection to the defence and had no attacking presence. He is for me our weak link along with Almunia. Almunia has never been a top goalkeeper which a team like Arsenal desperately need if we are to be the best team in the Prem again just compare him to Man U and Chelsea. Clichy has come back from a injury which even though is an excuse I would say it wasn’t his thought. Arsenal need players who aint always gonne be out for half a season through injury also.

almunia is not good enough we wont win league with him in goal.watch the second goal the desire by rooney to get ball there were three arsenal players around him he wasnt even in frame at start of move.even the third goal to a lesser extent.i think its great that everyone can pass the ball but the defenders need to defend first. arshavin put in a shift

Denilson can’t run to save his life. he has the pace of a five year old. Everybody saying he’s in top five opta stats for passing and Lucas (liverpool) is top for passing then that tell you all. We missed Diaby BIG time. Diaby Song Fabregas in the middle, we would have given Utd a betta game.Almunia is a B game (Bolton, Wigan, Hull type games) player not top teams or champs league.

  13. Alright been some while i wrote any comment on arsenal blogs. First off the performance was aweful and they “humilated” us (yes im a fuckin arsenal fan!) just like Chelsea did and then we ran into a good form and everyone was up for it and said we could win the title (I believed too), not anymore. It’s the same old story, MU beating our good run and make our team look like boys and we end up screwing another season up. Yes Arsenal was playing like boys!

Hate how much you want but Evra was right saying it last season. 1st goal was wonderful skill from nani and beat 3 defenders and chip an easy ball but Almunia reacted late and put the ball into his own net. It was PURELY poor goalkeeping, you can see the reply and he reacted late. A schoolboy football mistake. 2nd goal was a simple quick run from the middle by the sherk and denilson was his boy here. He kept running without any intent to close down any incoming players. WTF?!

I switched off the tv just after that and start thinking, it’s all repeating again and again every season. After conciding the first goal Arsenal normally go on wildly and lose another goal whenever they play MU and wenger talks about attitude, mature and stupid lies about his players! 70% of them have no guts and heart! If I was a good footballer and play for a great team like Arsenal I’ll make sure I give 100% in every game and don’t do silly mistakes like that!

I hate to say this but the team and manager is not title winner material. Only cesc, song, gallas, verminator, arshavin and nasri are the good ones. The rest are average and a few are below average (denilson and almunia in particular!). Where are the “we trust in wenger guys?”. Some might say it’s just a game but to be honest losing at that margin to your title competitator and arch rival is not 1 game, it’s a massive blow and I guess it’s 6 years without a single trophy. If i was a Hull fan I wouldn’t care but this is Arsenal
and the fans n club don’t deserve this shit wenger is putting up each year. He trust his players but he has more pride and ego for his phylosopies.

Keep it up wenger, it’s all down to him and his decisions. This will go on and only top 4 is the club’s concern. Highest wages and ticket prices and we just manage to finish 4th each season and with a few more tough games to go we might end up fighting for 4th position yet AGAIN this season! Hopes…that’s all this manager can give us.

I had it enough, for me things will get onto track if :

    1. Wenger get the F.off and get a new manager in place of him. I don’t care anyone as long as he have the experience and are not afraid of spending!

    2. Wenger changes his FAILED experiments and phylosopies and start buying mens not boys anymore!

I don’t know about you guys but for me this will be the start of downfall for this season like many other previous seasons and we’ll lose cesc and arshavin. Steps in ramsey (not ready) and some unknown kid wenger will buy. The club loves him because he will save them money and finish top 4. I love Arsenal as much as any of you do and
I have been watching them since i know what football was. Wenger is just living his past glories that he didn’t built himself alone, it as “leftovers” and he worked for a few years on them (players). That’s all.

    Utterly dissapointed Gooner!

  14. Ernie

Let’s go easy on Wenger here chaps. I do find Arsenal fans the most fickle in the Premiership.

  15. Segun

Can we truly be talking about winning the league when we do not have a team that can beat Man U and Chelsea? There is no point asking Arsene to beef up the deficient part of his team as other great managers managing great teams do because he just cannot see the weakness in his team. Truth is this average side has outperformed themselves this season. The majority of the players cannot get into any of the really big teams in europe.I hope Arsene’s attitude will not frustrate Fabregas etal out of Arsenal as another barren season beckon.

I AGREE WITH YOU FURIOUS SOL. arshavin played well at least he works hard he always chases down the keeper and bust a gut. bentner came on and gave the keeper loads of time on the ball and he was fresh and only on for 15 minutes. arshavin is our best player i do admit he did make a few wrong decisions but ususally them shots he missed would have ended up in the back of the net. just like when he scored agaist athletico madrid in the emerates cup when he should of passed it really but scored from a tight angle. he should of layed it off agaist united a few times to cesc and nasri. but other than that he wasthe best player on the pitch he skinned wes brown and got stuck in. he need more support as he was playing striker on his own. i wish wenger would play him in his best position just behind the striker because he would be so deadly with the ball at feet running towards goal

  17. chris larcom

EVERY 1 WHO GOES TO THE NEXT GAME LIVE PUT UP SIGNS AND BANNERS SAYING GET ALMUNIA OUT AND SING SONGS SAYING GET RID OF HIM HE ANT GOOD ENOUGH WENGER WILL HAVE TO GET RID OF HIM THEN BECAUSE THE FANS WANT IT AND HE WONT BE ABLE TO PERFORM. GET JO HART ON LONE DOES ANY 1 AGREE?

  19. I think its more of a coaching fault rather than a player error…
