CAN WALCOTT PUT HIS INJURIES BEHIND HIM?

Undoubtedly among the brightest prospects of upcoming English footballers, Theo Walcott is blessed in many departments that can increase his teams football betting odds. Blistering speed, tricky feet, an irrepressible instinct for movement through the niche between fullback and centre half (straight from the Wenger school of run-making) and an Henry-like ability to slide finishes in-off the far post.

Yet for all of this attacking talent, he seems plagued by the cruellest ailment to befall a Premier League player, the debilitating curse of an injury-prone body. Wenger maintains that this is no more than the usual complaint of a young body bowing to the strain of professional competition, but it is to be expected that the manager will defend his players when their fitness is doubted.

Walcott’s setbacks have been ever-present since his arrival in 2006, alternating between injuries to his knees, calves, thighs, hips, back and shoulders. A hereditary shoulder complaint has led to separation followed by dislocation, calling for the insertion of a metal pin and further surgery. He has been out for treatment fifteen times in three years – a record which far surpasses that of players in a similar age group playing at Premiership level. Walcott’s speed obviously counts against him when he suffers high impact falls, but the main worry is that the shear volume of problems could take their toll in the longterm. Even if Walcott bulks up physically and no longer balances competition with the strain of growing, the question is whether his delicate frame will exhibit any permanent weakness from these troublesome injuries.

  • i said various sites, he is injury prone and be an asset to the club if we sell him. he will never become a 1st choice in the Arsenal, because he is more injured than on the field

  • Walcott is not injury prone. we found out about his shoulder we fixed it. the back end of last season he was in blistering form so much so he got called up to the national side after the close of the season where he played and blew the socks off everyone. he then got called to the under 21 side and played for them to during his so called close season. i am amazed he has a girl friend. Wenger was against this dual role but the national side just wanted results and did not care about the players well being. it is no wonder he picked up an injury. as he comes back from the injury ridgewell decided 2 try be taylor. why did anyone not say that ed is injury prone? after an injury a player has to get there body back into prestine fitness so as to avoid more injuries. give walcott a break he just needs some rest and touch wood when he comes back some luck with the type of tackles that come against him.
