A few years ago (circa 1998-99), you would have taken a select Premiership team, and it probably would have consisted of Arsenal and Manchester United players. The players and team being the likes of Vieira, Petit, Anelka, Beckham, Keane, Stam, etc..
Those were the good old days.
Nowadays, the likes of money-bags Chelsea and Manchester City have appeared on the scene, and Liverpool have become stronger and stronger over the past 10 years or so.
With this in mind, how many Arsenal players would walk into a Premiership XI, and what would the team be? I would say Arshavin and Fabregas would walk into the team, and possibly Nasri at a push. With that in mind, this is my Premiership XI:
Petr Cech
G. Johnson Vidic Ferdidnand Evra
Essien
Fabregas Gerrard Arshavin
Drogba Torres
3 from Liverpool, 3 from Man United, 3 from Chelsea, and 2 from Arsenal. Does that sound reasonable?
Please send in your comments, and your thoughts about your top Premiership team.
Take care now, bye-bye then.

thats a very scary prospect of a team…
i would say vermaelen in for vidic or ferdinand
maybe even van persie otherwise you cant really improve that team a lot, the thought of drogba and torres up front is just crazy, the power, skill, pace and scoring ability there is as close to unstoppable as you can get. and with fab4 , gerrard and AA23 behind them, it would be deadly going forwads

I totally disagree with some names on dat list, but firstly, since the team is based on recent performances I see no reason why Vermaelen’s name is not there over the like of Ferdinand as he has been very poor of late.

I think Sagna is defencively much better Johnson. So id choose him instead. Besides that, i agree with your selection.

Give it time and Clichy will be in for Evra and Vela in for Drogba.

Cech…maybe 2 years ago. He looks a shadow of himself. Shay Given is without doubt the best GK in the Prem, and thats consistently over the past 10 years. He has always had a poor defence in front of him. If only we signed him all those years ago I think we’d have done much better over the past 5 years. Solid.

well played hfb, i was going to do that if no one else did. the thing i think is that people love to put together all of these super teams, but generally what happens is that the super stars tend not to work as well if its the entire team, if you have one or two big names on the field and a strong back up, you have yourself a solid team. thats where i personally think arsenal is right now, we are just getting that final team chemistry down, and pretty soon, i think we could beat a team of allstars like that

Come on what is jonson n ferdinand doin there.? Just to have more english players in the squad? Vermaelen n sagna should be ther instead.
October 14, 2009 at 6:05 am
Cech
Bosingwa Vidic Vermalean Clichy
Song
Fabregas Gerrard Arshavin
Torress Van Persie
Song never get as much credit as he deserves, he is really a very good player; such is the case with Sagna, you don’t really see how much effort these guys make during the game, Song can be really smart sometimes, I just love to see him play, I concentrate more on this player and I can tell you he is really a crucial player in Arsenal team, one should keep an eye on Ramsey, he has the nice touch, but what can you say? you can’t be smarter than Wenger… I just insist on clichy and Van Persie to be in the team, these two can eat the grass to win a game.
October 14, 2009 at 6:22 am
Agree with all the positions except these two..
i would like to see Vermaelen in the place of Ferdinad and Song in the place of Essien. I’m sure this will be the case at the end of this season..
Ferdinad is currently not in the usual form of his. Even though he might be back to his best, certainly can’t be a goal machine like Vermaelen….
Essien is misplacing his passes to many times these days..
October 14, 2009 at 6:57 am
i think vermalen should be on the list
October 14, 2009 at 10:22 am
As a gooner, if I had to pick an ideal Premiership side I think Given is a better keeper than Czech and that Cole for the start of this season and last half of last season has been immense. So I would have him instead of Evra. Terry or Vermaelen in for Ferdinand.
Regrettably, although on technical ability he is probably the best in the Prem I have to leave RVP out as I honestly think Rooney would provide more for a team overall up front.
Given
Johnson Vidic Vermaelen Cole
Essien
Gerrard Fabregas Arshavin
Drogba Torres
Subs:
Czech, Evra, Terry, Lampard, Robinho, Walcott/Lennon, Rooney

Very scary team. The only change would be Vermaelen in for Ferdinand.
October 14, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Totally agree with hfb!
Come on arsenal!
Shay Given is best in prem
October 14, 2009 at 2:31 pm
The goalkeeper was a tough choice to be honest. I do rate Given, but he is very short and does get exposed quite often. Whereas he is the best shot stopper around, I don’t think he is as good as Cech. The way I look at it, is which player I would like at Arsenal if I had a choice.
I chose Essien as, in my opinion, I would choose him over almost any Premiership player as we miss a player of his sort.
Vermaelen was not chosen, because we’re only a few games in. I’m sure he will be in my team come the end of the season.

sagna-terry-vermaelen-evra
fabregas-essien-lampard
torres-drogba-arshavin
bench: cech, gallas, clichy, song, gerrard, rosicky, van persie
mine has 1 city, 5 chelsea, 2 liverpool, 1 utd, 9 arsenal
obviously it’s debatable which would be the very best, but be honest if this was a real team they’d win EVERYTHING!
October 14, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Given
Johnson Vidic Vermaelen Evra
Essien
Fabregas Gerrard
Arshavin Drogba Rooney
Bench

This is the best team. Full stop. 4-3-3 formation
October 16, 2009 at 6:09 am
Anyone who puts Song ahead of Essien, Mascherano or even Fletcher is so ridiculously biased towards Arsenal.
October 16, 2009 at 10:15 am
Agreed. Song has played well for 10 games, no more. He needs AT LEAST a full season before you start putting him ahead of World Cup stars like Essien and Mascherano.
Furthermore, RVP can be in NO BEST 11, he´s a striker and doesn´t score enough goals or contribute enough assists. Rooney, Drogba, Torres, and Adebayor are all better.
October 16, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Hi Guys, I found a site with that decides who the greatest ever Arsenal player in the Premiership has been. At the moment Gilles Grimandi is on the all time 11… I don’t think so! Check out http://www.greatestarsenalplayer.com.

Since when this season has torres been more influential or better in any aspect than rooney? rooney is single handedly carrying United to stay in title contention and all i see is torres starting? get off his nuts, the guy is goods but honestly i cant remember the last time he scored a goal that mattered, remember against us this season, he could have finished us in the first half, but he missed against a weak almunia… i’ve liked him in the past, right now he is nothing more than an injury prone “allstar” he needs half a year off from football
