Well it looks like Adebayor will finally be on his way, though I was a bit surprised when I heard it was Man City who were interested. Mark Hughes seems intent on buying a team of strikers this summer and so Adebayor would not be guaranteed a first-team spot at Middle Eastlands. But I guess, as ever, it’s a safe Premier League bet that wages of £150,000 a week will ease the pain of sitting on that very expensive bench.
I don’t think his departure will upset too many Arsenal fans. Two years ago he proved to be one of our best players, backing up his obvious talent with effort and commitment. A bumper contract was just rewards for his efforts, though this was countered by a very public courting of AC Milan.
Since then the spark seems to have gone out. The fans quickly noticed and began to turn on him, a bit hastily in my opinion. It began a vicious cycle whereby any mistake was jumped upon by the fans, seemingly de-motivating him with each passing boo and jeer. I can’t deny though his performances dropped massively last season, though he wasn’t always helped by his teammates either.
The relationship between the supporters and player has been soured beyond repair and a transfer fee of £25 million is too good to refuse in my opinion. It is a shame as I feel he is a talented player but he didn’t help himself with some of his performances and body language. I don’t blame Gooners who accused him of being motivated purely by money.
If he does go who would replace him? Well Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh looks set to come in. I think it could be another inspired signing by Arsene especially if he costs just £7 million. He looks like a similar player to Adebayor in that he is tall and likes to lay off the ball to his team-mates. His goalscoring record doesn’t look spectacular but with the likes of Walcott and Arshavin playing off him we should carry enough of a threat to do well this season in the Premier League.

We’d be better suited spending the 25 mil (most or half of it) on a quality CDM. Then the rest on a winger. Arshavin has been aching to play upfront and showed his calibur there against liverpool.
I know he was playing LM but he drifted into the centre.

I know what you’re saying Tel. The fact is, on his day, Adebayor is one of the best strikers in the Premiership, and we’re not going to find someone to replace him that easily. If we sign Chama Khan, Chama Khan, I feel for you, then he’ll take a few months to get used to the Premiership. He isn’t going to settle in like Arshavin or Nasri did, these two were already world class players before they signed for Arsenal. Take not Mr Wenger, Nasri and Arshavin were world class before they signed, and the impact from the pair of them was unbelievable. We need a proven striker to replace Adebayor – not unrealistic like Villa or Eto’o, I’m talking someone along the lines of Huntelaar. He’s as slow as arseholes, but he’ll score goals.
