The title sums it up really! I’m fed up with people talking up Fabregas being our next captain. I have a few wise words for you people – STOP TALKING BOLLOCKS!
Seriously, Fabregas may be our best player, and I’m a massive fan, but the thought of appointing him captain for the sake of him being our best player sends shivers down my spine, and it would be the wrong direction for the club.
Reasons? Well, just a few. Firstly, the though of Wenger making him captain to remain at Arsenal is absolutely nonsense. Who really cares about being captain of a football club when the team is not performing? Not many to be honest. It takes a certain character to be captain of a club like Arsenal, and I for one do not believe we have one of those players at the club right now. Thierry Henry was made captain, did that stop him leaving for Barcelona? No chance!
Also, similarly to Henry, you cannot make the best player at the club the captain just for that reason alone. It just does not work, and it prevents that very player concentrating on his own game. Why would we want a less effective Fabregas who attempts to rally the troops? We wouldn’t.
Leading onto my last reason, Fabregas just isn’t a captain! He’s hardly Vieira, Tony Adams, Roy Keane is he? The captain of a club needs to be the player who can influence others when the going gets tough, who other players can look up to as a role model and believe in that player. We don’t have one of those in the squad right now, and the closest thing we do have to that is William Gallas. I’m not saying he’s perfect by any means, but he’s the closest we’ve got to captain material.
Fabregas is the best player in our current squad, let’s make sure we leave it that way.

“…captain for the sake of him being our best player sends shivers down my spine.”
Couldn’t disagree more that he is only being appointed as he is a) our best player or b) to make him stay at the club. He is respected, loyal and talented. Sometimes you give people more responsibility and they step up and absorb it – even thrive on it. Wenger sees that, and I am sure Cesc was earmarked to be club captain – perhaps not yet, but his hand has been forced with the Gallas situation, and so be it. Good luck to him.
“It takes a certain character to be captain of a club like Arsenal…”
Yes, you are looking at him. The young players (and that is where the future lies) look up to him like a god; he has done what they all want to do, join the club young and give his all for for the first team.
“The captain of a club needs to be the player who can influence others when the going gets tough, who other players can look up to as a role model and believe in that player.”
See above. I know you are entitled to your opinion – look, it’s even the name of your blog – but on this occasion it is my opinion that you are plain wrong. Sorry.

Only time will tell.
I actually hope I am totally wrong to be honest. I will come back and eat my words if I am.
For the time being, good luck Cesc.

dont compare cesc to henry.. i dnt care what people say but i knw henry was greedy/show off just like C.Ronaldo is today.. henry wanted to prove to the world he was the best player on the planet and arsenal are JUST about him!
KING fabregas, he’s a barca boy but arsenal in hes blood.. and u can clearly see that in hes celebrations even if it is at a LESS glam draw at a cold sunderland.. unlike mr henry
