ARSENAL: JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH

For me, the Premiership race is over for Arsenal. Some people may disagree, but that’s my opinion.

The reason for our downfall is partly due to bad luck, injuries to key players, and incorrect tactics, but mainly down to the fact that we’re just not good enough.

Our first fully fit eleven would beat any team in the Premiership, and if the season was about eleven players then I have no doubt the Premiership would be ours, but its not. Our squad is thin, and it’s been thin for the main part of the 3-4 seasons. If Rosicky and Eduardo were fit, we would be in a better position but we still wouldn’t be challenging for the Premiership this season.

Four seasons ago or so, if you’d have asked anyone to pick the best Premiership eleven I’m absolutely sure the team would’ve consisted of half Man United and half Arsenal. Nowadays, you’ll probably get Fabregas at a push, Clichy ahead of Evra, and Sagna in the team. We should have 5 or 6 in the team!

I think we have a lot of dead wood at Arsenal and the time has come for these so-called big players to perform. One of the biggest disappointments for me is Robin van Persie. He is a great talent, but he’s no good for Arsenal being a great player one game every 10 or so! I watched the Tottenham game when we drew, and he was different class, but I can’t remember the last time he played that well!

Is it time for Robin van Persie to move on? I’m not sure, but I do think he has his best games for Holland as part of a front three, and he’s always struggled to play up front with Adebayor and Henry. If he is that good for Holland, then it may be time for us to change our style to accommodate van Persie, he really can be that good. I can’t see Mr Wenger changing his style to suit one player, but why not give it a go? The season is over, we have nothing to lose!!

I’m actually half asleep, and multi-tasking and I’m not really sure what I’m typing tonight!! On that note, I’m off.

Couldn’t agree more with your comments on squad and RvP. First bit of sense written amidst all the usual excuses!
I am not a detractor of Wenger, he has worked wonders for Arsenal but surely common sense has to prevail and purchases must be made in Jan transfer window – centre back(s) and defensive midfielder a must! Strikers are ok if all fit but are they premiership winning class…?? I wouldn’t have thought so!

  4. I feel for you mate. Must be quite painful to see another season roll by without a trophy. Arsene Wenger is a sporting great manager and teaches stylistic football that is very pleasing to watch. Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, your squad doesn’t have the experience to beat the big teams. Name a player in your squad with exception of maybe Gallas, Fabregas, and Adebayor that could walk into Chelsea’s first team? Bentnor? Van Persie? ect… Sorry mate but if Arsenal want to compete for the Premiership they need to buy world class players and not just try to buy good youth. At what point do Arsenal fans start to question the stubborness of Wenger? Yes, he teaches good football, but he won’t spend the money to win the silverware and that can’t work forever.

the way see it the prem is dog fight, there 3 legues in the prem, to stay up, to get in into europe and the the title, and if you want to win prem you have fight for its not just matter of how much ability you have. the fact is we were out fought against stoke, hull and now villa its thats simple they wanted it more than us, youcan only use gallas as a space goat for so long, the fact is this has to come from wenger,he is far to soft on them,he is not rufeless enough, for gett about stratergy and formation how bad do they want this title, because for there is one player who has that complete distane for losing ansd thats gallas everyone saw that last year, very bad captain but complete winner deos likee losing att al and the players need that attutude, wenger needs realy needs to shouting and publicly critizing his players. another problem with the team that i see is there is only one defensive minded midfielder and thats song, you cant lose 3 dm and not replays 1,i think wenger has made quite few strange choices, vela has not been given a chance at all, bretna who is not just bad striker but he is lazy, wenger must now he has buy at leats one player but i would sell bretna and give jay simpson i chance and arsenal need dm they are clearly missing flamini and he has got to rest fab, if arsenal dont win anything then i think wenger should go its been 4 years arsenal have money to buty some winners

  6. I do think Clichy and Sagna would walk into any Premiership club. Possibly Fabregas, and maybe Nasri once we see the full potential. Apart from that, I can’t think of too many world class players.

  7. Hmm..Clichy and Sagna are top players, Rvp and Adebayor too, in fact I could go on. The problem is the balance is not right and we need just one or two new players not a whole squad. Look at last season where we nearly won, we just needed to improve.
Regarding RVP, he is suited to our style and once he starts getting the confidence and goals he will be class. Look at Walcott. RVP is always dangerous but doesn’t always produce. Once a gain I leave with this comment on Wenger and tell me if it is true of our wingers who are not shouldering the creative burden on Cesc.
“I like to have one behind the striker, and one or two on the flanks who come inside. I always feel that if you have players who can deliver the decisive ball in all areas of the pitch, you have many more chances of being creative. If it’s only focused on one central part, where it’s usually more concentrated, you have more space on the flanks to create.”
