Reports are claiming that Arsenal are close to securing the services of Yaya Toure, brother of Kolo, from Barcelona during the January transfer window. You can read the News of the World article here.
There is no doubt Arsene Wenger has been chasing a defensive midfielder this season, having already lost out to Xabi Alonso and Gokhan Inler during the last transfer window. With Alonso finding himself back in the Liverpool first team, and Inler committing to Udinese, it seems that Wenger has redirected his efforts on signing the young Barcelona midfielder.
The defensive midfield position does seem to be the one position we are struggling with this season, with Denilson and Song both fitting in, but neither really stamping their authority. Denilson seems too similar to Fabregas, and Song may not be quite ready yet.
Yaya has seen his first team chances limited since Josep Guardiola took over at Barcelona and at £8m could prove to be a masterstroke from Wenger once again.
Let’s hope this story is true, as I for one rate Toure very highly.
