PLAYER RATINGS: ARSENAL 3-0 NEWCASTLE UTD

What better way to bounce back from last weeks humiliating 1-0 defeat to Fulham, then to go out and batter FC Twente 4-0 and Newcastle 3-0.

After the opening 5 minutes or so, you could see nothing more than an Arsenal onslaught, after we should have had a penalty when van Persie was clearly fouled by Michael Bolton, Gallas should’ve scored from 3 yards, and Toure had a 30-yard effort tipped wide by Shay Given.

The goals came from van Persie with a cooly taken penalty after 19 minutes, followed by his second goal of the game shortly before half time (40 mins) after a clever back-heel by fans favourite Eboue. Denilson finished the scoring after 59 minutes with a neat finish after some good football from Nasri and Adebayor.

The full match report can be found here.

Robin van Persie was taken off injured midway through the second half, so I’m sure he’ll be out until December 2012.

Anyway, onto the player ratings:

Almunia – 7/10 – Didn’t have much to do but when he was called into action he didn’t let us down.

Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy – 7/10 - I’d give them all 7/10 as none of them were outstanding but they all did a job against a weak Newcastle side.

Eboue – 6.5/10 - Love his directness, but he still seems to dwell on the ball for too long. I’m sure he’ll get it right, and will prove to be a valuable player for us one day.

Denilson – 4/10 – For me he was the worst player on the pitch. He seemed to give the ball away every time he got it. I’m not going to give him a higher rating because he scored. His job isn’t to score goals!

Fabregas – 7.5/10 – Good performance from Cesc. Unlike Denilson, he doesn’t seem to lose the ball ever.

Nasri – 8/10 – Our best player again. He looks absolutely quality, and he links up so well with Clichy. Isn’t afraid to put it in either. It was a beautiful moment when he tripped Joey Deacon.

Van Persie – 7.5/10 – Good performance from van Persie. Inconsistent at times, but that’s mainly down to injuries and not having a long run in the first team for quite some time.

Adebayor – 7/10 – Didn’t do much wrong today. Besides scoring, he played well. A lot of people will argue that his job is to score but as long as the team are scoring goals, then it doesn’t matter.

Subs:

Walcott - 7/10 – Looked quality when he came on.

Vela - 6.5/10 – Looked lively.

Song – 6/10 – Didn’t really get into the game, but didn’t do much wrong.

If there was one major moan from the game for me, it would be bemusement as to why Djourou didn’t start the match. He’s played two games this season and kept two clean sheets, but he’s replaced every other game whilst Wenger continually perseveres with Gallas and Toure.

Meanwhile, the transfer deadline is looming and I’m sure we’ll sign a player or two before midnight on Monday. Wenger wouldn’t just be winding the fans up with his comments about signing players would he? I bloody hope not!!

  • we could have scored more

  • we should have scored more three points is three points.

Denilson – 4/10 – surely you’re having a laugh!? This was one of his best games for Arsenal.
    Watch the game again mate.

  • I really thought he was terrible. He just give the ball away every time he got, against a poor midfield.

Generally, I’d accept it if I was wrong, but I’m positive I’m right with this one!! :)

maybe not a great game for denilson but i hardly think a 4, seemed much better than against fulham, where he was truly atrocious….and you cant knock him saying its not his job to score and then say its okay ade didnt score (when it is kinda his job…) bc the rest of the team did…

that said i agree with the 7 for ade cause he worked hard, just saying kinda unfair to little deni…

  • I do agree about the Adebayor comments, and I did actually think that when I was writing the article, that I’ve contradicted myself. I was hoping nobody would notice!!! :)

Maybe I’m being harsh on Denilson, but I really hope he’s not the answer to our defensive midfield problem.

  • 7 for Walcott is too much, he simple took the ball and run into defence, and Song did nothing better than Denilson and you gave him 6. LOL IMO Walcott 6, Song 5, Denilson 6
