I don’t know about you, but I’m already feeling that this season is a very strange season.

It’s not just the defeat after the second game against Fulham, this weird feeling has been going on for a while. We lost a couple of big players in the summer, without really replacing them, and we were close to losing Adebayor too, but there was a very surreal feeling about the whole thing. It wasn’t
really upset, it was more shock. It didn’t feel the same as when Henry or Vieira left for example.
Also, the whole pre-season fixture list was a little weird for me too, everything from the Barnet game Emirates Cup, to the Amsterdam Tournament just didn’t feel right.
It seems to be getting even stranger tonight when I’m hearing about Senderos being loaned out to Milan for a season, along with Djourou being loaned out to French club Rennes, on top of the very strange Silvestre signing.
Does Wenger have too much faith in his youngsters? Or does he really have something up his sleeve? To be honest, if he went out and signed Alonso and Zapata tomorrow then I would be over the moon and think everything was normal again. Well, not normal, because Wenger would never buy experienced players, but you know what I mean.
Is anyone else getting the same feeling?
I will add that all these people asking for Wenger to be sacked, time for Arsenal to move on, etc.. Please stop talking nonsense!!!! I have honestly never heard so much rubbish.

My first thought on hearing Senderos and Djourou might be leaving was that perhaps Zapata or someone similiar was on their way to Emirates. But then I’m also feelin weird vibes from Arsenal. With the departures of Henry, Vieria etc you had the feeling there was a well-thought-out plan. This season it seems like we’re reacting as opposed to being proactive. Perhaps Arsenal really believed Flamini would stay and are still in denial. I just don’t see the overall preparedness I’ve seen in this squad in the past. Abromovich completely altered the landscape of the league when he arrived and while I don’t want to see a dodgy billionare buy the team I don’t think Arsene has really adapted to this new reality. It’s only two games in but unlike seasons past, there does seem to be a real sense of doom amongst the fans. let’s hope Arsene proves us wrong.
very fair points chaps, and I can understand where you’re coming from.
Damon you are right about the Vieira and Henry transfers, they were inevitable but this season every transfer has been a bit of a surprise which is why nothing is surprising now!!! It is very surreal!
can you imagine Wenger actually spent big in the next week though? Imagine he bought Barry, Zapata AND David Villa!! How exciting would that be? Not going to happen though!
If this were a fantasy team i’d get those players in as quick as i could bu unfortuantly we’re stuck with this rather gloomy reality. Reality does suck sometimes. And it wasn’t so much that we lost to Fulham – every team has a hiccup or two during the year. it’s that we played so poorly. So un-Arsenal-like. I actually turned off the game after an hour as i was about to start screaming and i didn’t want to do that in front of my 8-month old in the room. And it really annoys my wife.
I’m sure all will be good fellas. I hope so anyway.
It does seem inevitable that we’ll sign Alonso or Inler – not sure about Johnson to be honest, he’s just not tenacious enough for me.
Normally we do start off really well and lose that momentum towards the half-way stage, maybe we’re saving the best performances for the right times!
I hope so. Ade and RVP are quality and we can put their performace down to lack of sharpness and support from midfield. Nasir looks like the real deal. Our fullbacks are the best in the league. Odds are one day Walcott will put it together and show up for an entire game. And if we can sort our our injury’s we’ve got a decent squad. But there did seem to be a malaise in the team Saturday. Hopefully we’ll work it out … on Twente’s asses! (My Dad’s home town team, btw) But a loss to Newcastle I just could not take.
I make you right Scottpuffin, something weird is going on, Inler has said he aint coming and I don’t think Alonso is either. Hill Wood has said we don’t need to buy anyone when we clearly do, letting senderos and Djourou go? Why would we do that?
I reckon there are big changes coming, the board don’t want to spend anything because they are getting ready to sell. I don’t believe in this sack Wenger shit but I do think he’s going, he wants to win and it’s clear that the board won’t let him spend, I think he’ll go next year because he wants to.
We won’t win anything this season except maybe our champs league spot for next season and I think we will lose Fabregas, Adebayor and Van Persie in summer, we will get a new manager and probably sell to the Russian or Kronke and start building again with a new manager.
Bad times
Stop fucking worrying everyone. its only one defeat and the season has just started. nobody wins the league after 2 games. relax everyone.
There seems to be a lot uncertainty and worry amongst the Arsenal fans this season. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed anything quite like this for years.
I’m not crazy even tho u might think I’m, Arsenal will win all 4 competitions , when Arsenal won the prem before they had nearly a perfect start but because they already put all what they got for the start they fall short near the end and miss out on CL, also when u have a perfect run and get defeated it is really hard to bounce back unlike now, remember last yr’s form after Sevilla defeat 3-1 (first defeat after a perfect 28 unbeaten run from start of season) after that defeat lost first game in prem as well to middlesbrough , when u are unbeaten and get defeated , the floor start shaking beneath your feet.
I can totally see what you’re saying Ali, the important part of the season is later on, nobody wins the league after two games. Man U had a very slow start last season, but so too did Derby.
I don’t think we’ll win all 4 competitions.
