Arsenal have beaten FC Twente 2-0 away from home in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier match, in which will prove to be a massive game for Arsenal. Report here.
I’m sure most Arsenal fans cannot wait to batter the team after a dull performance, but Arsenal cannot win, they play dull football and win 2-0 away from home in Europe and they get accused of not being good enough! If we drew 0-0 and played scintillating football we would’ve been accused of not putting away our chances!
On that note, as far as I know, we had two shots on goal and scored two goals. A job well done for Arsenal, and a game which will be a relief to get out of the way. This game was huge.
Anyway, let’s not dwell, here’s my brief summary on the performance.
Almunia – 7/10 – Didn’t do anything wrong.
Sagna – 5.5/10 – One of his quietest games since joining Arsenal.
Clichy – 6.5/10 – Not one of his best games but was still lively throughout.
Djourou – 7/10 – Steady games.
Gallas – 7/10 – Looked a bit suspect at times, but regardless of what people think of Gallas, he does come up with valuable goals in big games.
Walcott – 3/10 – Really couldn’t give him a higher score, he was absolutely useless tonight. He was playing out of position on the left.
Eboue – 6.5/10 – His build up play and work-rate was good, but he still fails to get rid of the ball at the right time. I’m still confident Eboue will come good. He has a very direct approach, and loves to charge forward.
Ramsey – 5.5/10 – A quiet game for Ramsey.
Denilson – 6.5/10 – In and out of the game, but has still been one of our best players in the past month or so.
van Persie – 6/10 – Looked like he was on a mission to kill someone tonight. Had a quiet game but had some decent moments.
Adebayor – 5/10 – Scored a valuable goal, but I thought he was bad apart from that. Needs to work on that touch!
Regardless of performances, we got the result we needed, and I would’ve been happy before the game if someone said we would win 2-0.
Arsenal News 24/7

Denilson/Ramsey Midfield can neither attack nor defend
And WTF is eboue doing on the wing while vela, wilshere are sitting on the bench?
WTF??? walcott/eboue left and right is BALL SHIT when vela is a left winger and walcott a right winger
it is time for eboue’s and diaby’s to come up with some self criticism and resign, as I don’t need Wenger to resign because of jokers Eboue’s and Diaby’s
2-0 sounded good, but it sure looked bad.
You’re totally right, it did look bad. But as I said, Arsenal cannot win!! We play bad and get a brilliant result and we get slated. We can’t always play great and win games, it’s just not possible.
I’d rather Wenger take all steps to win a trophy, and if that means giving up attractive football in certain games then so be it.
Cyril, I think Wilshere and Vela are great options but you we are already thin on experience for this game, so we needed to go with a couple of the experienced boys.
I think its important to still win when you are not playing great – a character of all champions: thats what arsenal needs in the new season. Also, I think throwing an all young teamwould have been a big gamble, so he chose Eboue/walcott who have accumulated some experience.
What I have against Eboue is, as you said scottpuffin:
1. failing to get rid of the ball at the right time
2. can make a good run down the flank but the final ball is usually aweful, or start dilly-dallying with it and looses it.
3. his vision when around the box leaves a lot to be desired – can’t seem to know where the team mates are – and hence give a wrong/short pass
4. Scoring??
Maybe its coz he is better at right back.
Have to totally agree with you Rodwell.
It is a massive risk to play youngsters in what was affectively a huge game. It’d b different if we were 4 goals up in the first leg, then you could try it, but not in a game like this.
Good point about Eboue scoring goals, I can’t rememeber him scoring for Arsenal apart from the peach against Sunderland in the Worthington/Carlsberg/Lidl/Carling Cup?
