Arsene Wenger has admitted that he could sign one more player before the transfer window closes, but the player would have to be a quality signing. I don’t think anyone expects Arsene to sign a player who is not quality to be fair. Read all about it here.
Wenger refused to be drawn into talking about Gareth Barry, or anyone at that.
“I don’t think that the best tactic is to come out with names.”
Whether or not Wenger is actually interested in Barry is anyone’s guess. I’d be amazed if he signed a 27-year-old Englishman with no pace for over £15m but Wenger has pulled off a couple of surprises in the past, notably Gallas and Sol Campbell, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does it again. Or he could be using this as a clever smokescreen for his real target.
In other news, we lost 1-0 to Juventus in the Emirates Cup, but I’m still convinced we’ll do well this season. Effectively, our reserve team totally outplayed the Italian giants, and their goal was yards offside. I’m sure we’ll see a stronger team against Madrid tomorrow.

it is clear to me that wenger is using the preseason to scout an above par dm from our own squad. as it is becoming apparent we don’t have one, enter inler or the like. that we’re still linked with barry is going beyond comical now.

After watching the pre-season it’s clear that Denilson isn’t a replacement for Flamini, that’s for sure. Diaby looks more box-to-box then totally defensive, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
Song is the answer to our worries but Wenger has made it clear he won’t play in midfield.

The fact is there is nobody on the market who is good enough to fill in for Flamini. Barry is the best pick of a bad bunch. Veloso is expensive and he’s hardly intimidating like Gattuso or Flamini. You’re right, we need a hard hitting midfielder.
