With all of these wholesale changes happening this season, I do not think our starting line up against WBA on the first game of the season will be too far off a team we would’ve fielded last season. The only trouble I’m having is who to partner Cesc in the middle of the park. I do think Wenger will sign a defensive midfielder, but if he didn’t, then what would your starting line-up be (barring injuries), and assuming Adebayor were to stay.
I think he’ll go with the following:
Almunia
Sagna - Gallas - Toure - Clichy
Walcott - Fabregas - Denilson - Nasri
van Persie - Adebayor

i beg to differ, i do not think he will put denilson in the line up.. and i think there will only be 1 striker and van persie + nasri will be supporting striker..
i think the one playing denilson role will be diaby

Bernard, are you a crease ?

I think Diaby could be in that Denilson role, it was a toss up between the pair to be honest. My personal opinion is that neither Diaby or Denilson are good enough (yet) to play in that role. The only player in our squad who looks suitable is Song, but Wenger has stated that he sees Song as a centre back.

If Adebayor is at the club, then Wenger will play him. There is no way he is leaving out our 30 goals a season striker.

this is what i’m talking about. denilson or diaby as our dm, flamini replacement? holy shyte. as far as defensive qualities needed at afc those two just can’t get it done, how many times do you need to watch these players? i believe those two have something to offer but not in the dm role, that’s just asking for trouble. i am hoping wenger has a transfer in mind to solve this massive hole in the squad. now, flamini was good at the dm and had a good understanding with cesc but now is the perfect opportunity to upgrade the flam dm position. bring in a monster dm, it’s really essential now, otherwise i’m fearful for arsenal this year, our team defense was a question last year(not back four) and that question has not been answered this summer, yet.

I do agree with you Dan. I don’t think either of them are suitable, and none of them seem to like a tackle.
I’d rather Song be given another shot in that role. He’s always at players ankles and he’s probably the most tenacious player in our squad. I rate him, and I think he’ll be quality in a couple of years.

scott, true, they run a bit but very reluctant to tackle, they’ve shown they prefer the creative aspects. alexander song billong has it all to be a great dm and cb but he seems timid at times to be an enforcer. i hope it’s just a maturity thing and he starts to assert himself consistently. he does seem at times to be concerned with making mistakes like all young players, a bit more confidence and he can be remarkable. is it his time this season, or should we bring in some unknown beast that gives the team defensive profile a whole new look and more confidence to the team knowing that have a rock in midfield to mop up any little mess and tie off any loose ends with grace or steel whichever the case. i did read somewhere that song played very well at ACN but didn’t see any of those games.
