Alex Song has signed a new long-term contract for Arsenal as announced on the official Arsenal website. The full story can be found here.
This is very good news for Arsenal, and news which I believe most Arsenal fans won’t really appreciate until the end of next season when we find out what he’s really made of. I’ve got absolutely no doubt 20-year-old Song will make an excellent centre-back or defensive midfielder for Arsenal for years to come.
He could follow in a trend of Arsenal players who take time to get used to the Premiership, or show their full potential, and go on to become an Arsenal legend. Let’s keep reminding ourselves that Hleb, Flamini, Adebayor, Walcott and Henry have all taken time time to settle at the club.
Alex Song was signed from Bastia on a permanent contract in July 2006, and was loaned out to Charlton in the 2006/07 before returning to Arsenal where he made 15 appearances last season.
