Over the past month or so, I’ve never heard so many pessimistic fans since Wenger took over. People need to relax and realise that we would have won the league if it wasn’t for injuries to some out most influential players. I’m not going to say we would have won the league if decisions went our way because that’s a feeble excuse.
Up until the injury to Eduardo we were in total control, and we seemed to be invincible, but we did NOT crack under pressure like many of the media and our own fans like to suggest. We were just unfortunate with injuries.
Yes, our squad is a little slim but it’s not as bad as what everyone seems to think – we do not need to ship in lots of new faces in the summer. It seems likely that we’ll lose Flamini, Hleb and Lehmann and I think we’ll draft in four players, a centre-back, a third choice keeper, and two wingers. We do not need a striker; we scored more goals than anyone in the premiership bar Man United. We have Adebayor, Bendtner, van Persie and Eduardo as our main strikers, and Walcott and Vela if required. Which gets me on the next topic, Carlos Vela. He will be a top, top player in a couple of years, there is absolutely no doubt about that, but let’s not expect miracles next season, he’s going to be our fourth or fifth choice winger and will likely get a handful of games. He is a great player, but I see him as an impact player next season, similar to Theo Walcott this season.
Let’s get behind Wenger and the boys next season, regardless who we sign and sell in the summer. It’s not all doom and gloom as some like to believe. I’m backing Arsenal to surprise everyone again.
